Here are my new fosters, "honorary" cockers, Dory & Marlin. We named them after the two fish in "Finding Nemo" and just like the two in the movie, this Dory and Marlin stick together. Marlin is also something of a worrywart regarding Dory. If she moves he instantly jumps up to follow her.

Getting rescues from a shelter is always educational because very often, we find that what the shelter tells us is not exactly, exact. We think these may be part cocker, part Brittany (Shelter folks thought they were English Cockers. We told them definitely not). The girl is 5-6 months but according to the vet, the boy is around 2-3 years old (so much for being littermates. Marlin may be Dory's dad?). Marlin is also skinny but weighs 32 pounds. They are some of the most gorgeously colored dogs I have ever seen. Marlin has what looks like sableing and Dory is a dark, dark brown and white with tan points. They were just spayed and neutered and are very timid and unsure right now having bounced from shelter to vet to foster homes but they also really want to bond.

One of them is probably already going to a new home this weekend!

File comment: It took them an hour to come out from under the table. They have what I call the classic "worried rescue" expressions. I am sure this will change in a couple days.

They look like springers to me, so beautiful though! Are their tails docked? I can't tell from the pics.

Oh they're gorgeous, Naomi! I don't think you'll have them long. Those are worried little faces, aren't they? I agree that will change, but you may have a little longer if they're separated because that's yet another new thing. LOVE their names.

Maybe Sprockers? Our Springer rescue colleagues were sure they weren't pure Springer. I guess the only thing we will ever be sure of is that they are some sort of Spaniel mixes. :dk I am hoping to get a picture of Marlin in the sun because he looks like a red sable parti--reminds me of the coloring Jim Zim's Meg had.

Do you ever get the sable coloring with Springers?

We had a springer named Stella that was the beautiful copper color, they call it liver. It shined in the sun and could look sable like I think. Both dogs are very stunning.

I agree, these look like springers to me as well.
We had our rescue springer, Tivy, for over 13 1/2 years. She was a a dark copper 'liver' and white color, much like Marlin. She was very energetic till the last 6 months, literally bouncing off the walls, but we loved her.
Naomi, how lucky you are to foster these two beautiful dogs!
The new forever families for Dory and Marlin are very lucky!

Very beautiful dogs! I see Brittany though. The ears should tell you. If there is big heavy leather like a cocker than I'd go with Springer, if it's shorter and lighter than I'd go with Brittany. I do one that is the color of Marlin

:wow Those are beautiful dogs. If I didn't already have one dog (my limit) and if I was closer, I'd be very tempted to adopt that pair. Their eyes are hypnotizing :hp :hp :hp

What cuties! I hope they go together since they sound fairly bonded based on what you described.

Thanks for the tip Julie! We have some cockers coming for a visit tomorrow so I will do a comparison. One of the SDSR volunteers thought Marlin looked like a Welsh Springer. Both dogs have full tails. Tails are fun but I do miss a nubbie. :hp :paw

Beautiful spaniels! Love the sporting breeds above all! They've landed well.

Okay, I compared ear leather and Dory and Marlin have shorter and much thinner ears than our cocker guests, Simon and Bert. So I guess Brittany is more likely.

My husband agreed to dog sit for Bert's foster dad today (all his idea!). Gotta love a husband that wants to spend Father's Day hanging out with 4 spaniels. :love

Working English perhaps? I mistook a pair of those for Welshies last week, most annoying! :tg But I gained points for identifying a working English setter and a Cesky terrier, so it evens out! Anyway, these two are beautiful, I'm sure they'll find homes soon.

I'm surprised Springer Rescue didn't tell you they are likely field bred Springers : )- Defintely NOT welsh springers, tho. ADORABLE!!! Thank you for all you do, Naomi - you are true asset to SDSR!

Here is a quote from one of our SDSR volunteers who also works with a Brittany rescue:
"The ladies of the Brittany Rescue are of the opinion that these are full Brittanys." :gig

What I find really amusing is that everyone that sees them always ends their thoughts with, "Whatever they are, they're beautiful!"

Keep your fingers crossed for Marlin. The family that was looking at them choose him and want to do a Meet and Greet with their Lab. :th-up
