I know I don’t post on here very much but the forum has always been a big part of my life and right now I need all the help I can get. I initially joined this forum aged 11 when it first opened, when I was leaving junior school; now here I am, aged 18, and leaving senior (high) school in a month. Next week my A-levels will start which are basically the final exams I take in my school career and my grades determine whether I get into my university or not. English is my first exam and, unlike my others, I have no previous exams to back it up - normally you take an AS level and an A level, taken in the space of 2 years, and the grades are added together. But as English is on a different board, devised by the University of Cambridge and much harder than the standard A-level, it all rides on the exams taken at the end of a two year course. It’s undoubtedly the hardest exam on Wednesday with two essays, closed text, on Coetzee’s ‘Disgrace’ and Chaucer’s ‘Wife of Bath’ then the following week I do another English exam on Pinter and King Lear. I’m so terrified despite having worked for them for the past two months doing hardcore revision, if I don’t get a D3 (equivalent to a high A/A*) and two A’s in my other subjects I won’t be able to go to York next year. So I’d really appreciate your prayers, wish me luck! :hi

Thanks guys! It's tomorrow and I'm really nervous, I've been studying all day so hopefully it should pay off and I have the morning to go over stuff as well as the exam is at 1:30 tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes...

Daisy,

Prayers for a calm spirit ... also that you will be focused, able to recall what you have learned and apply it correctly to the test.

Best of luck to you!

Done! I honestly thought I was going to be sick before I went in but the whole English department came over to the sports block (where the exams take place) to calm down those who were in tears and to generally wish us luck. The questions were quite good, it gave me a lot to talk about and a lot of language points to examine (luckily I remembered the quotations I needed). There's a few things I'd change if I could do it again but it's not too bad... I did write 13 A4 pages after all :P The next one is on Thursday - King Lear and Pinter. It's good to know I'll never have to willfully read The Wife of Bath or Disgrace ever again :joy

Great job, Daisy. :Clap :YAY But don't be surprised if you find yourself waaaay down the road WANTING to re-read The Wife of Bath or Disgrace. I'm just saying that it somehow happens.

Thanks everyone! I'm now halfway through my a-levels (having done my drama, lear/pinter and john's gospel exams) and approaching (what my father likes to call it) the final stretch. Tomorrow I have my final English exam and my first politics one. Then I have a couple of days of pure cramming the next politics exam and my religious fundamentalism paper - then I'm done! I'm so looking forward to finishing, especially as politics is so much harder than the AS's were last year; although, according to my head of sixth form, I only need a high C in this exam to achieve an A overall due to getting in 90's last year :goof wish me luck!

I DID IT!!! I ended up with A*AAA in a year that's seen the biggest drop in A grades in 21 years, I'm absolutely thrilled and so excited. My mum burst into tears when we realised I was in and I'm still getting over it now!
