Something is wrong with Walker. Last night we were playing fetch and he went to go after a ball and all of a sudden was acting funny. We babied him last night but this morning he can't move his back legs. See the YouTube video below. I'm just beside myself.

We are keeping him still until the vet opens at 8. Please give your thoughts and prayers.

Oh no! I think this is what happened with Kim's Poppy. Sending good thoughts and prayers. I would keep him as still as possible.

Oh, no, so sorry to hear this. There have been far too many back injuries lately. My heart is with you--prayers for you both. Please keep us updated.

Looks like a disc issue. I've had that with Zoe twice. See above for info on IVDD, and good luck.

Please get Walker to the vet right now. We've been through this with Sophie and it looks like a spinal issue. The longer you delay the more likely the damage is permanent. I'm sending hugs to you and Walker :hp :hp

I will pray your beautiful Walker will be ok, I predict there will be crate rest and prednisone in his immediate future. Hope for the best. I understand your anguish. :hp

I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers, they mean a lot to me and my husband, and especially to our Walker.

We ended up taking him to a 24 hour emergency vet because our regular vet couldn't get him in until about 10:30. That wasn't acceptable to us so we drove him to the emergency vet. At the E vet they happened to have their surgeon on hand when we showed up. They did a variety of tests and determined he needed an MRI. We had to drive him across town so he could have it done, and alas........he has a ruptured disk. The T-11 disk ruptured and spilled it's fluid into the spinal cord and around the T-12. He also bruised his T-2 (that part is less technical than what they told me, and the T's might be a little mixed up, but you get the jist....) He's in surgery right now to create a "window" in his spine. He has about an 80% chance of making a full recovery. That's pretty good odds, but that other 20% scares so much. They'll release him in about 48 hours. I'm going back up there this evening to see my baby boy.

Basically, what you're seeing in the video is "acute paralysis due to a severely ruptured disk." It was terrifying. I've never been so scared for one of my boys. I can't imagine what he must have been thinking or feeling.

We hope he'll be able to walk by himself in about 2 weeks, but are trying to be realistic in his full recovery taking up to 8 weeks. Until then, I have to be his legs :sad

You may be surprised at his recovery. My Zoe has been through two spinal surgeries and came out walking, although after the first one we did have to express her for a day or so. The most important thing is crate rest, no exceptions. You should also use all the pain meds they give you for two reasons: one, to keep the pain at bay and two, it might keep him a little loopy >> better chance for complete compliance in the crate. My neurosurgeon recommended 6-8 weeks of crate rest, no stairs, no wood floors. At about the 4 week mark, I tethered Zoe to her crate with a big blanket in front to cover the hardwood. We bought a larger crate for downstairs and she slept in her 30" crate every night.

Best wishes for a full recovery! Please feel free to message or email me if you need support from someone who's been there several times.

Prayers for Walker. Poor baby. I am sure Ranger will be a good bwother and help out. This must be so scary for you, but sounds like the ER vet took good care of you. Gee, if I had an emergency and my vet said wait til 10:30 I would not be pleased at all. I have even discussed this with the owner, that if I ever had an appt and an emergency came in to please bump me for the emergency, no questions asked. I would hope others would do the same for me. My 24 hr ER vet is 35 minutes away, my reg vet is 5 minutes.

Prayers coming for your boy. I hope he is feeling much better very soon. It is always scary when our pups are sick (just coming off Annie's IMHA and I'm STILL not sleeping through the night) so I know the panic and worry that settles in your stomach. Just know that we're all holding your pup close.

Kaci, I'm so glad to hear he's had the MRI, surgery, and has an 80% chance of full recovery. Continued prayers for you, your baby boy, and all of those who love him and are caring for him... :hp
