Hello, All --

I know I don't post here often, but when I need to "talk" with folks who love their cockers as much as I do mine, this is the place to be! Actually, I don't think anyone could ever know just how much I love my boys, and especially my Scrutly -- there are no words to describe the deep bond that we have. My Scrutly is 18 yrs. old, and the reason I live. He hasn't eaten for 4 days now, and has drank very little water. Two years ago exactly, he was diagnosed with severe arthritis in his back, spondylosis, 3 compressed disks and a herniated disk -- I was devastated. We've been sleeping on the floor ever since, so that he won't jump on/off the bed (he refuses to use the steps, and isn't really supposed to be doing stairs, anyways). Acupuncture has made a world of difference, and has gotten him through the past two years without Tramadol or Rimadyl. But, he is so weak now, and can barely get out of his bed -- he hasn't greeted me at the door when I come home from work all week. We've tried giving him some scrambled eggs, cooked chicken breasts -- even went to McDonald's today for his favorite -- a vanilla cone. But, he has no interest in food, at all. We have a 4:30 appointment today, to find out what is going on with my little guy, and what can be done to help. So, I'm seeking prayers and positive thoughts for my Scrutly's health, a good outcome for him (and to ease the pain in my heart). Many, many thanks --

Oh Terri, I remember when he was so sick two years ago. Two years is such a gift! Praying that the doctors can help him to feel better again and you can have your beautiful boy back.

THANKS, everyone. I just got back from the vet clinic a short time ago. They are keeping my Scrutly for a couple of days. He has always been on the small-ish size, with his all-time heaviest weight at 22 pounds -- but tonight he weighed in at 10.4 pounds. He has lost so much muscle in his back legs due to his spinal issues, plus not eating for several days, has really put his weight down. He is hypothermic (99 degrees, even though I had his little fleece hoodie on him, plus bundled up in a blanket), and very dehydrated. So, they started an IV on him to get him rehydrated, and put him in an incubator to warm him. His vet suspects kidney failure, so blood work, etc. is also being done. It's going to be very odd not having him cuddled up with me in bed tonight. I've never been so sad in my entire life!

I appreciate everyone's positive, healing thoughts and prayers so much! When I called the animal hospital earlier this evening to check on Scrutly, they said that his kidney lab work was askew, but that he had gotten a bolus of fluids, and was then able to lift his head up. When I left him, he was just laying there in a heap, and wouldn't/couldn't even lift his head. Here are some photos taken of him this past Sunday. Doesn't he just have the softest most beautiful eyes? Can't wait to go visit him tomorrow!
