O.M.G. I'm sitting here relaxing watching T.V. and checking the FORUM, Buddy is draped over Nancy's legs asleep and he suddenly starts having a mega seizure! It has been about two years since he's had one (that we know of) and this one was a doozey it lasted about 5 minutes or so and it took him about another 10 minutes to get back to normal! Poor baby sure was scared he looked really frightened. He's back to his sweet self and is all curled up next to Nancy sleeping. Wow, that was awful! :OMY LEO kept trying to see what was going on with Buddy, when Buddy has these we just keep him calm and hold him so he doesn't get hurt. We also talk to him and assure him that he's going to be O.K. :love

Read posting below! It never ends!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta love Cockers!

Hi Tom,

How scary... has he had one before? Is he on meds for them? If he is.. did he miss or spit out this meds? (My Ivy used to do this) Boy do I know that panic feeling... those seizures seem to come out of the blue don't they? I'm glad that Buddy has come out of it.

I'd suggest that you document this with as much information as you can remember. Today's date .. the time .. how long it lasted and how long it took to come out, his position when it happened ... the weather... what he did today... his reactions. Did he lose control of his bowls? Urinate? Throw up? Heck I'd even write down what you were watching on TV, were lights flashing funny on the show? How was he earlier today .. how did he eat, sleep etc. Everything you can think of to write down! You never know what strange pattern may occur. (My Ivy used to have seizures if she hadn't been out to potty in a long time... usually when we were gone for the day. It may have been stress related.) Time of the year.. how the pollen count is. Here in Ohio we actually had a poor air quality alert today... did you guys too? Full moon? In hindsight, were there any hints that this might be coming... pacing, drooling, unusual panting, lethargic? How about Leo... did he seem anxious today? Sometimes a good pal can pick up subtle indicators and alert to a seizure.

Hopefully it's a one time deal... but best to write it all down while you remember. Call your vet in the morning.

I hope your Buddy never has another.
We had a scare a couple weeks ago.
The vet thought Spanky had an anxiety attack. Not a seizure.

I know how scary those can be. My Cody used to have them but not often enough to be on meds for them. Like Buddy it was sometimes 2 or 3 years between them. With him I found that dog food with different color pieces of food set him off. He hadn't had one for 5 years before he passed away. Cody was 15.
Hope Buddy is ok now.

How scary. I do understand. In my lifetime I had had two that had seizures. One ended up on pheno. I was told to always have honey or vanilla ice cream around and rub it on the gums. That the sugar may help bring him out faster. Not sure if it worked but, I always used it.

:love Thank you all for the kind words and advice! He has been Mr. Perfect today and Leo has been Mr. Velcro to his big brother! Buddy was diagnosed when he was about two years old and had several seizures per year for about five years and then didn't have any until last night!

:bang O.K. so today I get a call from the wife at work, "You forgot to close the gate last night, let me tell you about YOUR DOGS!" (when they get in trouble they are my dogs!) I'm holding my breath expecting the worse, Then She says 'I have been putting the boys out all day and they never left the yard! I let them out "5" times today!" She had me stop at at Petco and pick up some special treats for our "GOOD BOYS" they had a perfect chance to go for a very long walk around the neighborhood and didn't leave the yard. She said they had to have walked past the gate several times today! Nancy didn't discover the gate open until our neighbor called and said "Did you know the garden gates are wide open?" (By the way they are 10' wide!!!!!!) I'm very impressed! They got a bag of peanut butter honey doggie cookies! YUMMMMMMM! :th-up
