I've been wanting grooming equipment for a long time now but never had the extra money to buy any. I kept looking online for used clippers I could start with and today, I've found them! This guy is selling Andis AGC 2 Speed (black model) for $50 and he told me they've only used them twice on their cat. I should have them on the weekend. I think it's an ok deal? :dk

Stay tuned for some pictures of Charlie with a super bad grooming job, I don't expect to do a good job the first time but I'm looking forward to try it. :ROFL

I don't think it comes with anything else or he would've said it (I think). But yes, I will have to buy a 7 blade for sure and a grooming table.

I personally would only use a 10 blade, which is probably what it has on it, on the top of the ears/face/head (not top knot) and chin/neck area. I wouldn't use it on the back or anywhere else on the body....well maybe the nubbie if your guy doesn't have a full tail

Wow, that looks like a great deal. If you need additional blades, you might want to check eBay. I've found that I can usually get a better deal there, because many of the catalogs will charge handling fees, minimum order fees, and sales tax.

If ordering on Ebay make sure who every sends it to you does so regular mail if shipping from usa other wise they will charge a tax on entry into Canada. I purchased all my blades 12 of them from Ebay and had them shipped to me here in Ontario.

I'm with Debbie, I'd only use them on the head / face. I can almost guarantee you won't like it if you clip his back!

No, no! I wouldn't use the 10 on his back. That's why I need to buy additional blades before I groom him myself.

I've heard of #7 and # 7F. What's the difference?

Your right Debbie. The 7F stands for finish cut and the plain number 7 is a skip tooth blade and not one I would use on my pups as there is a chance the skin could get nicked with that blade.

I believe my 10 is just that. Is there a 10F?

Not that I have seen there is no 10F. I have a feeling because its such a close shave if they put skip teeth on it then it would butcher the poor pups worse than the 7 would.

The F stands for Finish blade. If you look at your F blades they will have close teeth unlike the skip tooth blade that has teeth further apart and different levels. The F blade is for an even cut where as the skip tooth blade is more for taking down the fur quickly but you do run the risk of nicking the skin if any happens to get between the teeth when grooming.

Yep, I know what F means, but my ten is NOT an F. So is it a skip tooth or what? I was looking good at it and it does look as if all teeth are not even :dk I guess it doesn't really make a diff. It is what it is.

No, the 10 doesn't come in Skip and Finish, it's just a 10. :-)

Alright, that deal fell through. I've emailed the person selling those clippers a few times and they never replied to me :sad . So I think I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy brand new ones :joy . I think most clippers come with a #10 blade. Which blade should I buy next?

Vicky, I have a 10 and a 4F. The 10 for the face, ears, etc. and the 4F for the back. Sometimes I use the 4F all over if I'm doing a full shave down. Some prefer the 7 for the back. Good luck with your grooming! I still manage to mess up their cuts and I've been doing it for over 4 years now! I have total respect for anyone who grooms fulltime...its an art.

Good to know, thanks Fran. Do you have pictures of your cockers back done with the 4F? I have no clue what the numbers mean in terms of lenghts.

We have the Halifax Kennel Club dog show at the exhibition park this weekend. I will be on the hunt for deals on clippers and grooming tables.

I agree...get at least a 4 and a 7 along with the 10 blade that comes with the clipper. For me these 3 sizes are necessities.

A 4 blade leaves the back longer more natural looking (natural looking IMO). You can goodle the blades or look at the site you are purchasing them from for length with each blade.

I would also suggest getting the Zim Grooming DVD or if that is out of your "grooming" budget, looking at grooming clips (no pun intended :gig ) on Youtube. And if you make a mistake, don't worry! Hair grows back!

I'd be surprised if you need to clip Charlie's back at all - a 10 and/or 7F should be enough for you, just for his face & ears.
