Rest in peace sweet Lay Lay! Camp Cocker lost Lay Lay yesterday, we had been working so hard to find her the forever home she deserved following her surgery, I hope she is now in peace. Who could know that I would fall in love with a dog I never met, but yet she tugged at my heart.

In loving memory of our friend Lay Lay (2-21-11)

rest in peace sweet girl, you were loved by all

pretty pink bows, what a girly girl

we will always remember your cute wiggle butt

Today at approximately 10:00am we lost our good friend Lay Lay.

We rescued Lay Lay in late August of 2010. She was burdened with double cherry eyes and two knee caps that were out. Her first cherry eye surgery didn't take. Then she developed severe dry eye and last week we took her to the eye doctor who said she needed the cherry eye surgery redone

She also had two bad knees that were stuck out of position. Today, she went in for surgery at a different vet. She had her cherry eyes fixed, her right knee surgery repaired and the surgery seemed to go great. As they were bringing her up out of anesthesia, she went into cardiac arrest. Our vet tried to resuscitate her, but to no avail. It happened so fast, she was gone in a moment.

There are no words for the grief so I'd like to share words about a good doggie named Lay Lay.

Lay Lay was a doll, a dainty little doll of a girl. She was short and low to the ground and when she walked, she truly swayed back and forth with the cutest wiggle, like Marilyn Monroe.

She never met a person she didn't like. Lay Lay did not discriminate, if you had a lap for her to snuggle in and a kind word to say, she loved you and she would crawl into your lap, and push her head into your chest for loving.

For all of her discomfort from her eyes, from her cherry eyes that were hindering her vision, then the dry eye and the eye discharge that was hindering her vision, she never once complained. She just accepted that this is her lot in life and took it like a trooper.

For her knees bothering her, she never complained as well. She lived in the moment and if the moment was uncomfortable, she would sit down and take a rest from walking.

She didn't care for other dogs, but she didn't mind them if they honored her personal space. She just preferred they stay a safe distance away and leave her just be who she is. Perhaps she felt handicapped with her vision not a hundred percent? Perhaps she just didn't want to play? Perhaps she was not raised with other dogs as a puppy and never learned how to be social with other dogs. But what she lacked in doggie skills, she made up for in people skills.

Lay Lay never did find her forever home, instead, she found herself in transition. She stayed for awhile at one boarding place and then at another one, both places the staff was really good to her. She never once complained, just accepted where she was.

Lay Lay had friends, human friends, and everyone she met thought she was cute as a button, despite those big cherry eyes and the dry eye problems.

Lay Lay was a sweet girl, with a loving spirit. My only regret is she didn't get to know a home before she left us.

I hope she knew how much we all loved her and how special of a girl we all think she was.

Lay Lay, rest in peace sweet girl. You will be greeted by a lot of our old friends up in doggie heaven and they will surround you with love and comfort and help you to feel at ease. I hear they give all good doggies brand new bodies when they arrive too, so that will be more comfortable for you.

And you have been a good doggie, a really good doggie.

We love you Lay Lay, and we will carry you in our hearts always.

Now run off and meet your new friends and enjoy that new body . . .

.

I hope that pretty pup finds joy at the Bridge. Her story broke my heart. I'm sitting here watching Maxine smile at the joy of a meatball and wishing someone could have done the same for LayLay. I am sorry for your loss.

Lay Lay RIP. She knows she was loved in her final months. Run happy at the Rainbow Bridge. Cathy did everything she could for you. Lay Lay knew this in her final days.
