I know this is not really ''grooming'' but it has to do with making Charlie look good :wink

Once in a while, Charlie chews the hair hanging from his ears until it comes off. This makes his ears look funny and un-even. It takes quite a while to grow back. Anyone else has a cocker who eats it's own hair :dk And any suggestions on how to make him stop?

I haven't had a cocker that's done that. But my first thought would be maybe Charlie's ears are hanging in his food when he eats. Later he smells/tastes food on then ends of his ears and chews.
Maybe try a snood at meals??

I have caught Ava chewing her ears. Each time it has been because of part of a treat or her dinner was in them. Being black it is easier to see than it would be in Charlie's buff red ears. Food is my best guess

Have to agree that he's getting food in his ears and then smelling it later and eating it. Try putting a snood on him during meal times...

Honestly, I had never thought about that. But you guys could be right. He only gets kibble for breakfast but I do add pumpkin to his supper and sometimes he gets watermelon or other fruits. Maybe his ears are touching the food... I will keep an eye on that for sure once his ears grow back. They are a mess right now :sad

Vicky, I have ever seen bits of a dry dog biscuit/cookie in Ava's ear hair. I'm not sure how she does that, but she does. It doesn't have to be wet food for her
