The videos are so amazing Kaci! That nubbie wiggle warms the heart. I love the way Ranger cares for his brudder.

Great videos - and I can see a good bit of improvement in his walking from the one you posted a couple of weeks back - he's much steadier getting around! :th-up

Hi all!

I thought I would give everyone an update on Walker. He's still improving every day, and getting better and better! We couldn't be happier. :wv

The pooping outside instead of inside is getting better. I think he might be getting more control over his bowels. Peeing is getting better and he's actually trying to squat to pee now! :Clap His nub moves more than ever these days and it makes us so happy to see. He's enjoying life and is such a good boy. Ranger has finally adapted and is such a patient, sweet boy. We're pretty lucky doggy parents :hp

Here are 2 videos I took yesterday.

This one is him walking outside along with some nub action!
http://youtu.be/1xvQqcHHTCE

This one is of him "running". It's right at the beginning of the video.

He's looking great - moving at speed there! I'm sure your vet / physio could advise better, but he almost looks like he needs to practise walking steadily, perhaps onlead, in a straight line - he keeps getting his legs tangled up when he's trying to go faster, bless him! :love

I agree. I think his left leg is stronger than his right, his right leg trips him up a lot. When he takes his time (when has a cocker ever taken their time? :gig ) and walks slowly, he walks like a champ! Straight line, one foot in front of the other, like a pro. But when he tries to go fast he gets tripped up. Also when he gets tired he starts to drag his bum and gets tripped up more. We try and watch for that so we can stop all the activity, get him inside, calm, and rested.

:TYou again for everyone's comments!

Just a thought, do they make some type of brace for dogs that would reinforce his legs so he could walk straighter and strengthen his legs? He is so darn cute. Prayers for a full recovery.

Kaci

I just read through the journey your boy has taken. What a reminder that we do get to the other side of our babies issues. You are an inspiration ... and wonderful parents.

Sending prayers for continued recovery.

The vet is really impressed with his progress. She saw him on June 22nd and was so pleased to see his progress. She said that when she first saw him the week or 2 following the incident, she wasn't overly positive he would recover. But she's pretty confident that he'll make a "mostly full" recovery. :Clap

At this point, I don't consider a "full recovery" to mean that he'll be back to his pre-injury self. I don't think he'll ever take off in a dead run, jump high in the air for bubbles, or maybe even jump on the couch. Right now, I consider a full recovery going #1/#2 on his own, walking in a (relatively) straight line, with no trips or falls. However, he's so happy that it wouldn't matter if he didn't make an inch more progress, we'd still be thrilled he's in our lives and be thankful for the progress he's made (though our fingers are crossed for more improvement :gig ).

I keep making myself watch videos I took of him in early/mid June to remind myself how much progress he's made in such a short amount of time. It's incredible. Sometimes, you're so close to something and you see it all the time so it's hard to see the changes/differences. But watching older videos has really helped me see it.

Thanks again for everyone's kind words. You don't know how helpful they are, even at this point in the game. :hp

I think I'd feel the same way. We all know that dogs will adapt to most any situation, but with the progress made so far, I would be thrilled to death, if he were mine, if it stopped right there. I doubt that will be the case. I'm betting he will has improvement yet to make :joy

Kaci, what wonderful progress. :YAY The video of his nubbie wagging brought tears of joy to my eyes! I look so forward to these updates of Walker and am so happy that each update is more positive than the last. He looks so happy and carefree and he's not going to let this "disability" get him down...THANK YOU for the update, smoochies to Walker and lots of continued positive thoughts and prayers going out to all of you. Looking forward to the next update! :joy
