UPDATE from Vickie,

FIRST: Vickie wanted me to ask that you all keep praying for her little Annie! :luv

I was so worried that I just called Vickie. She asked me to post an update for you all.

Annie is at the Emergency Vet and is getting a Gamma globulin (sp?) transfusion. She appears to be tolerating the transfusion and she may be able to go home tonight.

Annie's PCV was at 15% upon her admittance to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. As you all know, Vickie and Bob are taking every precaution to make sure that their little Annie has the best chance at survival.

Just keep sending your prayers. PLEASE!

Dawn :paw

Gamma globulin is amazing. I have a good friend who is a cancer survivor, but the treatments destroyed her immune system. She gets gamma globulin infusions every month. Without them she would be susceptible to any infection. With them, she lives a normal life. This is powerful medicine, and hopefully will work the same miracles on Annie!

That is good news. Thank you for posting, Darra. :hp

I also wanted to mention that Annie is being treated by an Internist that specializes in IMHA cases. Apparently, this facility has a special section for IMHA patients. Annie's regular Vet arranged for Annie to be treated by this one particular Internist and all of her medical records were sent over as well.

So, in my humble opinion, Annie is in the best hands possible. With Vickie and Bob and this Internist as well.

More prayers for Annie girl! :luv

Dawn :paw

As a side note: Moonbeam was treated by an IMHA Specialist Internist. But, the facility does not have a specific section for IMHA patients. She did survive the IMHA and was considered "stable" prior to her contracting terminal cancer.

Annie completed the infusion and it will take a while for her 'cryt to rise again (Please Please). She's still very pale and weak though everybody was saying that she wags her tail constantly and stands in her cage when hearing a sound. Hospital said we could take her home if we wanted but we thought it best for her to stay the night. It's staffed 24/7 so they will monitor her and take action as needed. Keeping an appropriate blood level of the meds is so important to a successful outcome. She is a fussy eater in the best of circumstances. Trying to get food and meds into her orally has been difficult. Hospital can give it IV if required.
Will go down to see her tomorrow morning with her food and see if she will take from us. One of the benefits of having my hours cut to 32 though barely making ends meet. Hope and Change- heck yes. I hope I have some change left...

Just checking in before bed, thank you for the update Bob. Lots of prayers coming your way. As hard as it was leaving her there, it was the right decision. If you have any questions about her treatment, don't hesitate to contact Dr Dodds for advice. I also encourage you to join the AIHA forum on the Meishas Hope site-they are very well educated about this disease, much more than us, and can help with questions, advice, or just more support. They probably will have other ideas/options for you. Hoping for a good update tomorrow. Remember, the goal this week to is buy time until the meds kick in to suppress the immune sysytem, it has been 5 days, it should happen soon. Also remember this disease is a step ahead, two steps down, so don't despair or give up, keep up the hope and knowing the power of the forum is praying hard for Annie to pull thru.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the update though I did not see it till just now. Don't know how I missed your post as I have been looking all day.

Will be looking in again in the morning and still sending my prayers, best wishes, visualizations and crossed paws for Annie to start to show improvement tomorrow. Hopefully, she will surprise us and I know that she is in wonderful care right now.

Please try to take care of Vickie too! I know that this is very hard on her and she was tired when I talked to her today. Hope she is sleeping peacefully right now. :wk
