Last weekend, we installed a new bed frame in our room and stored the old metal fram in the guest/computer room. Every time Charlie walks by the old frame, he licks it until I pull him away.

Then I remembered that when he was a puppy, we had to keep the basement door closed at all times because he would lick a metal chair that was in the basement.

Is he missing something in his diet :dk ? Can this be bad for him? I'm afraid he will ingest some paint or someting. He has his annual exam at the vet next month, I will ask them but wanted to see if other cockers did the same thing.

Do you think he just likes the cold? Sometimes mine will lick the ceramic tile for no reason. I just clean with safe products or just the steam cleaner to ensure nothing will harm them.

Weird!

I've actually heard this before... I have a friend who's dog likes to lick her jewelry.. drives her nuts! I don't think they've ever figured out why he does it. :dk

Waylon licks my kitchen floor (tile) until I could scream. Maybe I'm just a messy cook, though, because my friend told me if she lived with me, she'd lick my floor, too, LOL.

Seriously, I don't know how to stop him. We've tried all types of corrections and distractions and nothing works. It's a daily reminder: "Waylon, stop licking the floor." Maybe they really do like the cold sensation on their tongue or something.

Maya does this with the tag on her collar, or my watch or any small metal object she finds, like the clips on the leashes. When I take her collar off the first thing she does is try to get the tag so she can lick it and she just keeps licking and licking and licking. I just figured for some reason it tastes good. Let me know what your vet says.

:wow Maybe it's more common than I thought. Donna, Charlie also likes to lick his dog tags now that you mention it.

I will definitly ask the vet, now I'm curious!
