I got this in an email and JUST had to share. :hp She is safe and healthy now, but I had to share that this
is why we, rescue, do what they do. :hp

A Bark for Help

Delilah, a sweet cocker spaniel mix, probably had only a single day -- or even hours -- left to live when an animal control officer showed up at her owners’ door.

The officer, responding to a concerned neighbor’s report, had never seen a dog so shockingly thin. Delilah weighed just 8 pounds, when she should have weighed 30-35! In addition to being cruelly starved, she had been living in a filthy kennel, and her once-lustrous fur was hanging in dull mats from her bony frame.

As soon as Delilah saw the officer, she barked once. It was a bark the officer claims she will never forget -- a panicked yelp, as if the little dog was using her last bit of strength to beg for help.

It’s because of animals like Delilah that American Humane Association’s Second Chance® Fund needs your support.

Can you please find it in your heart to donate so that more severely abused and neglected pets receive the medical treatment they need to heal and be adopted into new, loving homes? Thousands of Animals Like Delilah Are Voiceless

Delilah and two other dogs who had been living in the same abusive home were rushed to an emergency vet clinic. Thanks to caring donors like you, American Humane Association was able to provide a Second Chance grant to the animal shelter that took responsibility for the three dogs, helping cover the cost of their veterinary care.

All three have recovered, and Delilah was adopted by one of the vet technicians who treated her! Meanwhile, the dogs’ former owners pled guilty to animal cruelty and served time in jail.

Delilah’s story has a happy ending, but there are thousands of other animals who never get the chance to let out a bark for help. They deserve to be heard -- and helped. Please show that you are listening by giving what you can to our Second Chance Fund!

Em, I got an email from them also! It makes me so angry that I want someone to give the same treatment to the people that did this and others like them. Such a crying shame!

What makes people so damn cruel? There is no living creature I could do that too..NONE. If they started giving these cruel jerks what they deserved there would be less of this happening!!!

It's so sad that this ever happened. I'm so glad she was found in time. She looks wonderful and happy now. Bless her little heart!!!

Thanks for sharing this with us Em.

It is heart wrenching to say the least.
I am so happy that Delilahs' story has a beautiful ending.
I just sat here at work at my desk and cried my eyes out over that.

Thanks to all who rescue, foster, and peek over the fence into the neighbors yard on occasion to see
what's going on.

Vicki

There are so many cruel people in this world. Are they like this because they hate animals? Or does it make them feel powerful? Whatever the reason is, I hope they eventually get what they deserve.

I am so glad to see this little girl made it through and that she is back to health. :hp

OMG this is horrific!! Why would anyone do this? I am so glad it had a happy ending, Delilah is such a beautiful dog and looks so happy in that second picture. Thank God for that neighbor that reported this!!

I have called the ordinance officer once when I was walking in the summertime on a very hot (90's) and humid day. There was a little cocker tied outside with no shade and no water and it was crying. I felt so bad for it. I made a loop around and came back an hour later and it was still there so I made the call. No clue if anyone was home or not but there was no reason for it to be tied in the sun like that on such a hot day, however it looked healthy. Some people just have no brains.

I have spent from the time this was posted till now trying to think of a response. I am doing my best to be able to "respond" as opposed to "react". I do not know who did this or why. I do not know if they lived comfortably in the house while this was taking place in their garage - much as the Nazi soldiers lived comfortably on the grounds housing the concentration camps. I cannot understand - nor am I able to make a guess - at what produces "human" beings that can commit such horrors and still eat, play, laugh, sleep at night and view themselves in a mirror. Personally - at this IS personal - I am a Catholic and I have a strong faith. I make a point of not telling God what should be done to someone as I have neither the right nor the complete understanding of what is in another's heart and mind when something unthinkable is done. I have to say though that I hope when that individual comes before whatever supreme being there is, the look of that creature that was created to bring only good with it into this world will be taken into account. I hope that on that day, the person who did that will be granted full understanding in both mind and heart of the horror their actions created in that little life and that they will live in that knowledge for their eternity.

Now I will cry some more for the dogs that haven't yet been rescued and go snuggle my Maxine.

Dear Lord the only dog I have ever seen a picture of that thin did not survive. Unbelievable, just a living skeleton. Thank God for all of you who help in rescue!
