Meet SDSR's "You're so fine, you blow my mind!" I've spending a lot of time saying "Hey Mickey!", just like the song. Our new foster boy is about 10 months to a year old and very, very energetic! He's my new weight loss program because if he doesn't get at least a 30 minute walk twice a day we get the Cocker Spaniel version of NASCAR--a dog that goes around and around as fast as he can! He's an incredibly smart dog. In less than a week he has learned to walk politely on a leash, sit and say, "Please" by waving his paw and almost has "Down" and "Leave it".

He's working on his potty manners and does okay when we are home but is having trouble holding it during the day when we are at work. Night time seems to be okay--we take a walk first thing in the morning. I really can't and don't want to crate him while we're at work (it's 7+ hours) and my husband is very anti-crate anyway. Any suggestions for me to help Mickey learn to hold it?

Thanks!

Mickey is such a pretty dog - I love that color!

You could always sing the "M-I-C.... K-E-Y..... M-O-U-S-E" song to add to the repertoire.

Hi Naomi, Mickey is very very cute!

I don't know if this is possible for you or your husband but when we were training Charlie, we were taking turns going home on our lunch hour to let him outside. It is a 20 minutes drive so it gave me a fair amount of time to play outside in the yard with him until he did his business. We only had to do this for a few weeks, maybe a month.

At 10 months old, he should be able to hold it for quite some time but it might take him a while to understand how to :dk

What a pretty boy Mickey is. I only know of 2 ways to get him to hold it during the day...1. crate and I understand your hubby's feelings, but you may not have to do it for long. 2..what was suggested, you come home and take him out. I would do the crate. There's a good chance an adopter will crate him now and then anyway or be less tolerate of accidents than you are.

Thank you for fostering once again. Mickey is a cutie -- and a lucky boy, too.

I think Naomi is our star foster mom. One day the foster is adopted; the next, she has a new one. Cockers are very blessed to have Naomi in their lives!

Can you just baracade him into one room like the kitchen? I used baby gates to keep Maggie in the kitchen while I was gone until she was reliable.
