Some Hope

Thanks for all your prayers for Luna. We are hanging in there.
It has been a long road. My husband found a Facebook group for Pythiosis.
There is a serum they use on horses that most vets aren't receptive to using on dogs. This serum is given day 1, 7 & 21. Out vet tried to talk us out of it.
Explained with her survival rate what do we have to lose. So she has had the first two shots. Up till then she has been going out to potty 3 to 5 times a night. Body convulsing constantly. Tramadol seemed it only lasted a couple of hours. She was miserable. Thought she was a goner one night. The look in her eyes was telling me "Help Me". Took her in to for them to evaluate her. The receptionist said they had received the serum, but the doc was at a conference. He needed to administer it. Said I wasn't leaving till someone makes a executive decision & give it to her. Went home with it given & a fentanyl patch. She hasn't convulsed in a week. She goes for 3rd shot next week.

Luna has had her 3rd shot. They did a ultrasound on her, the mass has flattened out. The vet is thinking it may be scar tissue now, but will repeat ultrasound in 6 weeks & may repeat the tieter test to see if it is still showing pythium. All meds will stay the same till then. He said most dogs by this time are gone. So grateful. Thank you for all your thoughts & prayers.

That is really encouraging news. She is so lucky to have you fighting for her. How is she feeling now, after the 3rd shot?

Wow! Just Wow! I've been wondering how Luna was doing... good for you for doing your research and demanding what you thought was the right treatment plan. So awesome she is doing better... I hope and pray that she continues to heal and you get good news on the titer.

Well pythiosis was stronger than my baby. She passed last night. She was only 6. She should still be chasing her ball or the squirrels. The way these fur babies steal your heart. They love you without reservation.
She followed me to the bathroom, laundry room, to take the garbage out. She was my shadow, my protector. She would kill for watermelon.
The first time she went with us in our motorhome she fell in love with traveling. Anytime we would start it up she made sure we didn't leave her behind.
She came to us when we weren't looking for any more dogs. And now my heart as gone with her.

Thank you for all your thoughts & prayers.

:cry So very sorry for your loss of Luna. Please take your time to grieve. I do believe in Post Cards and ask that you watch for Luna so send them to you. The messages might be very subtle, so you have to be watchful. These Post Cards will give you some piece and you will know that Luna is fine. She will be watching over you.... :hp
