I thought you'd all be pleased to know that the gorgeous Afterglow Miami won BIS at Crufts on Sunday. He looked fabulous and moved superbly. Unfortunately there are a bunch of idiots who don't think they are 'proper gundogs' just because they are the smallest breed in the group and have a glamorous coat, and one of our silly tabloid newspapers has got an article and a vote on whether he deserved to win or not! I don't know if people in the US will be able to vote, but if so, I thought this would be a good place to get lots of 'yes' votes!

I'm a bit partial to Tri's but I have to say that is one lovely dog! Silly people... just because he's beautiful doesn't mean he can't do the job he's bred for, just takes training. The hair is just cosmetics, underneath the instincts are still there...

My retired vet (who used to show, breed and judge Cockers) used to tell me about a Cocker he showed. He told me that a bird had gotten into the arena where the dog show was being held. Naturally that was a distraction for all the dogs and the handlers had to work hard to show their dogs. His COCKER SPANIEL showed his natural instincts and stopped to "point" at the bird LOL.

I take Chesapeake to an open area near our home to run off her energy ... there have been times when the field is full of birds... tell me she couldn't hunt (with training) when she runs eagerly to "flush" the birds. :neen

Hi Lucy!

Yes, it's all in the news here too, and on Facebook, too.

That is a GORGEOUS dog! Of course he deserves his title!!

Well if you're able to vote, please encourage people to do so, as the idiots are winning at the moment!

I just voted and it is not even close. But the article is heavily on the other side, so not surprising.

My Jennie is very interested when it comes to birds. Anything that is smaller than a Starling or American Robin is fine. If that size or larger, they are not allowed in her yard. When we walk, if she sees a robin or group of starlings, she will start tracking them and will try to work her way into a position to rush and flush them. We walk past a small pond every day and lately there has been a pair of Mallards in the pond. She pulls me the last half block to the pond and tries very hard to get to the water. I keep her well back, since these are wild birds. She sits and shakes with excitement watching them in the water but she never makes a peep. I'm sure if I ever let her, she would dive right in and try to get to them. What a silly pup!

I have only trained her on basic obedience and manners, so whatever hunting instincts she has are completely natural. She is not bothered at all by loud noises, like fireworks or thunder, unlike the terrier mix and Collie we have had in the past. So IMO, our beautiful pups are still 'sporting', no matter what the other side thinks.
