Mayzee has had bad breath since I got her. We thought it was baby teeth that did not come out. I got them out with my finger. They did not come out normally. Just done.
I brush her teeth every day. I changed her food. She still has bad breath. Use the stuff in the water too. Any ideas?

Hi Jeanie, It looks like Mayzee is just about a year old. Usually the teeth are pretty good at that age, but there are always exceptions. Do her teeth all seem anchored in tightly? Check the front ones too. My dogs don't like the front teeth brushed and I had a problem there. I finally got to where they accepted the brushing there. Another problem spot might be in the very back. There are teeth way back that are very hard to clean or see. The very back one could be not anchored well. If her teeth are all good, is it possible that her lip flews are causing the smell? One of my dogs needs hers cleaned daily or she gets pretty rank smelling. I'd check everything closely and if you can't find the source, have the vet check her over at your next visit. Good luck! Teri

I agree with Teri that it may be her lip folds. I have to wipe Cici's face and stretch the lip folds when I do. Sometimes, just their drool stinks in there. She was once on the verge of lip fold infection and I used duoxo wipes and it worked to get things under control. She doesn't smell like a rose, but she doesn't stink either.

Thanks. I cleaned her lip flaps yesterday but I will do it every day and see.

To test for a Lip Fold Pyoderma infection in the fold area take your finger and rub the fold, the smell should transfer onto your finger if it does you found the source.

Now what you are you brushing with? The best thing I found is coconut oil. Dog tooth paste doesn't work, as we tried it. You will be surprised what coconut oil does. One large soft tooth brush packed with coconut oil per side of the mouth. It should melt and run down into the infected area.

It's not a fast fix as it could take about several weeks. Need to do it the rest of the dogs life. You can skip some days. Some times wipe the face off after eating.

Good luck

Joe

I'm still learning from others so I hesitate to post advice, but TropiClean fresh breath water additive was recommended to me and I've been using it in the water bowl for our three dogs. Seems to work as none of our dogs have doggie breath. So if the issue isn't her lip folds, you might check this out. And if someone thinks this is not a good product, please correct me.

Hi Jeanie,

sorry my post wasn't clear. I meant to say I wipe her lip folds after every meal and walk. It's helped a lot. I just use a slightly damp paper towel or tissue.

We walk the beach every day so I will wipe them when we get back. But when I got her at eight weeks she did not have puppy or good breath. That was why I was concerned. At that time I asked the vet and they thought it was baby tooth problem. I think all of the above I will try. Thanks.
