I have been meaning to post this for over a month haha, but 3 kids & a new puppy have made that a little difficult. I posted on this forum in February asking for help finding a puppy in MN. The lovely members here were so kind in helping me out. I ended up finding Jersey, a 14wk old red & white cocker spaniel. She is so sweet & gentle, with just enough spunk to keep us busy. I think she is a perfect addition to our family....even if it took me a couple weeks to come to that conclusion. :lol Even though she was a bit older than most puppies when they go to a new home, she still whined at night & early in the morning...not to mention the whole potty training experience. I think we are finally on the right path though & making good progress. Thanks to all who responded to my forum post & helped us find Jersey.

Thank you all for your kind words! I actually just gave Jersey her first hair cut today....well it was more of a trim. Her breeder gave her a trim before I took her home, but this was my first attempt. :sml She just needed her head, neck & feet trimmed up. Then I gave her a bath & used my dryer on her. She did really well, but was still pretty wiggly for the face part. I think she turned out pretty good. I need to keep "pretend clipping" her so she gets used to the feel & sound of the clippers. I took a few pics, but she was pretty tired & didn't want to cooperate. We'll both get better with practice :gig

She is seriously cute! :hp Like Cici's mom, I am sooo jealous and I love her name! Is she named for the state, the cow or something else?

She got her name because my husband thought she had the coloring of a cow & kept calling her Heffer :gig I said there was no way I would call her that. My younger son asked me what my favorite kind of cow was & I said Jersey. My older son said he liked it cuz it was like a hockey jersey. So, we finally had a name everyone could live with :lol2

Thank you! I think she is adorable too, but I'm her mama so I might be a bit biased :bg Sorry, Karen T for taking so long! I was super overwhelmed at first & then I couldn't get my pics to load correctly. They kept coming out sideways. I searched the forum for help & found a tip using Photobucket to get them the right way. It is a bit of a hassle, but at least I can post my iPhone pics now.

Jersey is still coming along nicely, but now we are struggling with carsickness  My vet said she will most likely grow out of it, but that I could use non-drowsy dramamine for now. I thought maybe we would just keep taking her on car rides to get her used to it. Today I had the bright idea to try having her sit in my lap in the front passenger seat with a towel in my lap...just in case. Well I should have grabbed a bigger towel cuz she managed to vomit & have it leak through the towel. I think I will try the dramamine & have her stay safely in her kennel. I would rather clean her up than have to clean us both. :gig I guess she just gets sick no matter if she's in the way back or front seat. Live & learn right?

Hi Pam,

We also had a little one that got car sick, she did outgrow it and now loves the car. Since I didn't want to use drugs, we used ginger. ginger snap cookies or candied ginger about 1/2 an hour before we were leaving and of course didn't feed anything else close to the time we were leaving. Just a thought. And yes I would take her for short rides, Karlie was good for about 1/2 an hour before she got sick, so we did alot of short rides where she didn't get sick so that she would not always associate the car with being sick, and as I said she loves to go for rides, she has traveled to MO the last two years to attend Cocker Nationals and will be going to TX this year so there is hope.

Thank you BeckyH for the advice. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a 5 minute trip or longer. She drools horribly...I'm talking thick nasty saliva. The only difference is that if it's longer than a 10 min drive, she will vomit as well as drool. I might have to try the ginger thing though & see if it makes a difference at least for trips to the pet store or vet office.

Pam, does she start the drooling before you start moving? I so, she might need some desencitization to the vehicle before you move the vehicle. Hopefully, giving the ginger before she gets in the car will help. Good luck.

No Jersey does not start drooling until the car is in motion. When I had her in my lap, she even made it 5 minutes without making a huge drool mess, but she then ended up vomiting. Since the last two car trips though, she now tries to get away from me instead of getting into the vehicle. I will definitely have to start letting her be in the car/truck when it's parked & reward her for good behavior. Hopefully the ginger or dramamine will help & she can learn to like car rides. Thanks for the advice!

Your dog is absolutely adorable. I have been looking for a red and white cocker for a while. Would you mind to share the contact info of the breeder of your dog (private message)? Thanks so much

Oh my. She is beautiful and reminds me of my first cocker. I am bias to the ASCOBs they are gorgeous. Saw you posted you bath her. Just a tip when you dry her ears should be the first so they don't get too moist inside. That's something I did with my last cocker and worked perfectly diminishing the ear infections. If she gets use to you grooming her you are going to save a lot of money. I am jealous.

Thanks for the tip. I just clipped her again & she was so good for me. I think next time I won't have any issues. I usually clean her ears usding the Zim recipe & then bathe & dry her. She loves the dryer, so it goes pretty smoothly. She tries to get in front of me when I dry my hair too :HoHo
