Grady (now 20 months old) has been peeing on the bedpost, the side of my recliner and when we took the Christmas tree down today I discovered the edge of the rug under the tree had been urinated on :goof He is neutered, the youngest of the 4 cockers, everyone is spayed or neutered. Any ideas, suggestions. I've been away from the forum for awhile, wow, good to catch up.

Hi Susan, it's good to see you! I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have a neutered male dog marking in the house. Once any possible medical reason is ruled out, I would go back to the basics of house training. No freedom in the house unless you are right there to correct him. I hope this turns out to be a short lived problem. You might want to get a black light to go through the house to find any marked area and be sure to get them totally cleaned ... dogs do have the habit of returning to the spots they've previously used.

Thank you Cindy, I was just thinking today its time to get out the baby puppy gates and confine him to an area in the kitchen.

Have you ruled out a UTI - because that might be the culprit.

I agree with Tina. Please take a sample into your vet to rule out a UTI. I remember there were a couple of times when Annie was getting older that I wanted to blame a couple of accidents to her age and the medications she was on. Other than "accidents, " she seemed fine. Each time, to play it safe, we took in a sample, and sure enough, she was trying to tell us that there was more than her age at work. Once you rule out any medical condition, then you can get tough with the house rules again. Also, as a thought, has anything changed in your household? Sometimes the only way our pets have to let us know they are uncomfortable or unhappy is to revert to some unpleasant business. I do hope that this turns out to be an easy fix for you.

If you want to make sure all the urine spots are gone I would second the recommendation to get a black light. I bought a cheaper one off amazon & was amazed to find that my puppy was peeing in the house due to the accidents left behind from my previous cocker! I thought I had cleaned them all up. At least I now know why she was doing it.

My 8 year old parti boy, Cooper, has been a marker forever! He has been neutered since about 8 months old.
Drives me nuts, and we have tried many things with him, but he still does it occasionally. We have laminate floors, so it is easy to clean, and I do use an enzyme cleaner, but every now and then.......
When traveling in the RV, he wears a belly band and pad just in case he feels the urge. The belly band eliminates clean up, as the pad catches it. However, at home we have a doggy door, and I can't tell you how many times the belly band has made it outside into the yard with Coop. Ugh!
