It has been awhile! It has been insane here in our household over the past year or so. With a promotion at my job and our son going through his issues, I have not been able to post as much as I have wanted too. This site has been my lifeline with our 2 current cockers. And to add to all of my current stress (, we are adding to our family and getting a 3rd cocker on Friday! Anywhoo, Champ just turned 6 this past Saturday, Lucas is annoying as ever (wait, I mean needy), and Opie was born Nov. 1. I know he will be super young when we get him, but I think the breeders are ready to be done with puppies. I think he will be a great addition to our family and I am kind of ready for him to be here. This time around my husband will get to experience bonding as I will be at the D2 Football National Championship game in KC. I am sure the little scoot will become attached to his new mama (me) when I am off work for 2 weeks over the holiday :) Those of you with 3 or more, how are your "older" dogs? I am a bit nervous, but maybe that is the new mom. lol

I have a one-and-only, so can't answer your question. I just wanted to say that Opie is ADORABLE! :love

Congrats to you all.

We currently have five and the configuration changes with at times adding a puppy, at other times older rescue dogs (some seniors, some special needs, some both). To be honest it has never been an issue. We usually introduce them on our lawn - outside the house. They sniff, they woof, they sniff some more and, at the point they're losing interest and walking away from the newcomer, we open the door and they go in. At least with mine they then look at the newcomer as if to say "these people will let anything in the house" and that's the end of it. I do make sure that there are no toys scattered inside because that way they don't have anything available to make that first trespass into the house a your's-mine situation. I usually get them a small meal and make sure the new addition stays away from the others at that point.

To be honest I don't make a big deal about it and apparently they pick up on it not being a big deal. I think sometimes they pick up on our being anxious and it unsettles them so they think it's a problem and one is created. The good thing with a puppy is the older dogs have beds, couches, etc. to get away from a puppy and, if you crate train (I did) there are times the puppy is crated which also gives older dogs some alone time.
