Thanks for all the well wishes, Penny is doing pretty well - she had a whole day back at the RCV and (as others have said) some of her clots are dissolving and none have reformed so we're on the right track. She's become amazing at not having her meds though so that's been fun.

Our biggest problem at the moment is she's very out of sorts. Most of you know we lost Josie (our older cocker) on Friday which has been really difficult for everyone involved. Pen's confused as to why Josie's not here, even though the interaction between the two of them was minimal at the end. She's started having 'accidents' in the hall, even though she's being let out every couple of hours and never asks before hand. Does anyone have any advice? She's obviously distressed so we don't want to scold her but likewise we don't want it to continue...

I type posts and lose them before I send - what's up with that?

Anyway, can you try either piddle pads on a tile floor or a belly band/doggy diaper for her? Other than those two things I don't have any suggestions other than to confine her to a place where, if she does have an accident, it won't be ruining carpeting or flooring. She's had a lot going on lately...and the "vibes" in the house are probably very different now that you have lost Josie. I'm very sorry for your loss. I missed the post about it. I'm sure Penny is confused by all of the sadness, too.

Is she on prednisone (or anything similar)? That can cause urinary accidents because they simply have to go a LOT and truly cannot hold it. If not, then my suggestion would be to try doggie diapers.

So glad to hear she is doing better and on the right track. It is hard enough on all of you dealing with Penny's illness and losing Josie at the same time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Daisy, I haven't been following the Zim forum much of late but for some reason checked today and was so upset and sorry to hear that Penny had a relapse but then happier that she seems to have rallied. Looking at the photo you posted, I couldn't believe how much Penny now looks like her mother Lottie, my heart dog who passed recently this past May at the respectable age of 13. I will say prayers for Penny that she continues to recover from her relapse and grow stronger.

My condolences as well about Josie. So sorry you've had to go through all this grief and stress in the past few weeks, but hope Penny continues to pull through. xxx

Penny crossed over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday evening.

It was quiet and peaceful, the vet came to our house to help her over the Bridge; so she was surrounded by her family, lying on her favourite part of the sofa.

To say we’re heartbroken feels like an understatement. It feels like a piece of my heart is missing.

Thank you for all of your words of support and well wishes throughout her battle. If we hadn't had the recommendation to go to the Royal Veterinary College, this may have happened sooner.

I joined this Forum when I was eleven years old. It was how I met Grace, Penny's breeder, and was lucky enough to have Penny for 9 years. Now at 22, I wanted to sat thank you to Jim for providing us all with this community.

Now Penny is with Josie (probably already irritating her) and her mother, Lottie, at the Bridge. I miss her so much already.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I've been through it several times and I know how it feels. It hurts so much. May you find comfort in your memories. Run free at The Bridge sweet Penny.

Sending hugs.

My heart goes to you. Penny fought her disease all these months and you were with her all the way. She is in the Rainbow Bridge running and barking. Is so difficult to see them go. Glad you have the opportunity to take care of her and see her cross over in her known surroundings and with love. :hp :hp :hp

I'm so sorry to hear about Penny. To say she fought hard would be an understatement. This is an awful disease, and she was so fortunate to have you in her corner. My heart breaks for you.

Doesn't matter how long you know - nothing really prepares you for it. I am so very sorry. She was a fighter.

It's been a real privilege to see you growing up Daisy, you and your family are wonderful people and gave both Penny & Josie such great lives. Keep in touch, and come visit any time you want a spaniel fix (but I might try to sneak my wicked Lottie into your car to take back with you haha). I'm sure Henry will be keeping an eye on both of them at the Bridge and leading them into more and more trouble..... :love

I am so sorry to hear this news. I was about your age when I lost my first and only childhood dog that I had for 17 years and it was awful. You were a wonderful owner for Josie and Penny and they both had a wonderful life because of you and your family. As Lucy said, it has been wonderful seeing you grow up on the forum. You have a bright future ahead of you and will do great things. Your compassion, knowledge and drive will take you far in life, and I can foresee many lucky animals to have you as their parent. I also want to commend your parents for raising such a thoughtful, caring girl who will contribute much to our future.

So very sorry for the loss of your sweet Penny before her time. I can't imagine going through your long, heartbreaking struggle. You did the best you could do and then went beyond. She will always hold a special place in your heart.
