If you are a chronic nail biter (like me) and you have a very active, playful and MOUTHY little puppy (like mine) I would caution you ... don't spray Bitter Yuck on your hands... Just sayin'

Ewwwwwwww. I can't get rid of it. Poor dogs... who thinks this stuff up? I sprayed it like two days ago and just bit my nails (because it's stressful at work today) and oh my. it's awful. I wanna bite the rest, but don't want that stuff. I think I may have to voluntarily commit myself til that stuff wears off...

Puppy may break your life long nail biting habit!!! :Clap :ROFL Sorry, I have a husband who has been a nail biter since he was little, and tells stories of the stuff they put on his nails to get him to stop and how awful it was ... but he continued to bite his nails even with the bitter sprays.

Once you finally get all of the yuck off your hands, try rubbing the back of your hand with peanut butter, butter, or even a little canned dog food, and let your puppy lick it from your hand praising him the whole time he is licking and not biting your hands. Turn the negative into a positive. I always prefer to find a way to praise my dogs than to go around saying "no" all the time.

Nice Cindy! :) Awesome thought... thanks for that practical application. I've seen your posts about "positive" training and "choice" training, but it helps *ME* so much to have a PRACTICAL application of the theory!!! :)

In the meantime, I'm DYING here. LOL :ROFL

Off-topic, but I've been a nail-biter since I was a kid. Less the nails and more the cuticles . . . I'm a bit OCD about things being neat and tidy (I'm not exaggerating here) and so little hangnails and stuff make me crazy. If I don't have nail clippers everywhere (purse, desk, bedside table, etc) then I chew the heck out of my cuticles. My hands look terrible.

I've not tried Bitter Apple (good idea!) but I have tried almost everything else . . . nothing has ever worked.

It was bitter Yuck, not the bitter apple, because when I looked at the bottles, the bitter yuck was rosemary and other natural ingredients and the bitter apple had alcohol. :dk But I didn't want to use anything with alcohol in it, in case it burned his mouth. Overprotective maybe, but that was my thinking.

I would NEVER wish this on ANY biter. LOL :gig it's SO nasty. and if you are compulsive about it (like I am) it doesn't stop you. It just makes you miserable. :lol2 :lol2 :lol2

I didn't know there was a product out there called Bitter Yuck  My fiancé bites his nails (although he's been pretty good lately) and his daughter does it too. I might buy that stuff and see how they like it :evil

I know this is a little late, but I've finally stopped biting my nails. I've bit them since I was about....4 or 5? And I've finally quit (for now...anyways) Its been LONG and HARD! I quit biting them for about a month...then EOC's came around, and I bit them during the test. Its been about 2 weeks and I haven't bit them yet. Its more of a telling yourself to quit thing. I keep painting them and try to keep my hands busy by making bracelets, or doing something to keep me distracted. I haven't used any "Nasty Tasting Things". Just quit...I hope I can keep this up as I'm jealous of the people who have long pretty nails. :mad

I've always bitten my nails - I figure I don't need to stop until my Mum stops biting her nails! She's one of those that bites them even with the nasty stuff painted on! :neen
