I have a 2 year old cocker -Tucker - he loves to lick - everything. He will lick a pillow, a blanket, his bed, or whatever until it has a big wet spot on it. Is this usual for a cocker spaniel. He also likes to lick ears, hair, whatever.

It sounds like he has a little OCD. I have a Schnauzer mix like that and he'd lick the tile off the kitchen floor if I'd let him. There are herbal calming things you can try (Bach's Flower Remedy) or there are liquid "tonics" you can get from the vet that are herbal that might help. They never helped my little guy, but he's been like that forever and we just deal with it. He's 14 now and started to have some heightened anxiety issues, so he's on a very low dose of Prozac, which has made a world of difference for him (and for us since he is calmer). Have you tried to just re-direct him to an appropriate chew toy or something when he starts that? You'd almost have to be around 24/7, though. I work and can't supervise to that extent during the day.

I'm interested to hear any responses to this too. I've got a four year old on my hands and he does the same thing. His favorite thing to lick is the sofa cushions... :dk

Cici, who is 6 years old, is a little over-zealous with her manicures and pedicures, especially when she returns from a walk. Or randomly when she wakes up from nap. It's excessive, but harmless.
