We're on the Carnival Spirit, which sails out of San Diego... not the Carnival Splendor, which sails out of Long Beach... and here's the reason that I mention it:

So glad you're on the Carnival Spirit and not the Splendor. How disappointing for the Carnival Splendor passengers. :cry

Just woke up to this news and got online instantly to check on you guys. Thanks for checking in and letting us know you are ok. That would certainly have been an adventure you could miss.

It was top story on Good Morning America........thought you left too early to be on the Splendor. Sad situation but glad we'll get no Zim pics from all of you stuck with no air conditioning, no food and going nowhere fast. :mad :bang Safe travels, wandering forum members.

Very glad you are all on the Spirit & not the Splendor this week! :joy
Local news just reported that the U.S. Navy is sending out help from Navy Island in the form of pallettes of food & other needed supplies.
Sending good wishes to those people on the Splendor!

Whew! I've been looking all over the forum to find out which ship Jim and Kellyn (and congratulations on your remarriage!) and the other forum members were on. I finally remembered that there was a "social" section. :goof I'm glad you're not stranded!

As soon as I heard the news about the "Splendor", I immediately went to the Zim
Forum & checked to find the name of the cruise ship for the Cruise-a-Palooza. I
was very glad to see that the Zim Party was safe & sound on the "Spirit"!

Back in the mid to late 80's, my parents had an unfortunate cruise ship experience.
Mom & Dad wintered in St. Petersburg, Florida & decided to take a cruise across the
Gulf of Mexico to Cancun, Mexico. The first half of the cruise went without a hitch.
It was on the way back from Cancun (around midnight) that the ship's engine room
caught fire. The fire was extinguished, but not before disabling the whole ship.

Distress signals were given & even though help was on it's way, it would be hours
before help arrived. Their cruise ship drifted in the pitch black darkness of the night.
All of the ship's passengers had to stand along the outer decks with their life jackets
on - waiting for the possibility of having to jump ship into the cold dark abyss. Mom
& Dad comforted themselves by singing hymns out loud. When they stopped singing,
nearby passengers asked them to keep singing. Which they did.

By the time help arrived, the ship had drifted nearly to Cuba. The ship was then
towed all the way back to Cancun & then the passengers were flown back to the
Tampa/St. Petersburg area. There was only 1 fatality (heart attack from the stress
of the situation) & 1 injury (broken leg from a fall while getting to the safe spot)
reported.

I was the first one to to talk to Mom & Dad on the phone after their safe arrival.
Needless to say, all Mom could do was cry with tears of relief & happiness that their
unforgettable cruise ship experience was finally over.

That is quite a story. I am not so sure I would have been as brave! Just adding prayers and positive thoughts for all the people on board who thought their were in for fun and relaxation and vacation. May they heal and enjoy their days ahead.
