I'm still learning my way around the new Canon Rebel. Other than not liking the loud shutter, I'm happy with the camera so far, although I have yet to give it a real workout.

I took a couple of photos of my granddaughter in motion this weekend, indoors with available light on a very dreary, overcast day, and today I took a couple of outdoor photos; again overcast in the snow. With today's lighting, everything was in shades of black and white.

I'm open to comments and suggestions!

Thank you Isaac and Stella.Your comments and critiques are always welcome -- I have a lot of respect and admiration for you both as photographers.

Now, as I'm learning my way with this new digital SLR world, I have a question; What does "AV" and "TV" stand for? I know what "aperture control" and "shutter priority" are, but what exactly does the "v" stand for ... and the "t" in shutter priority?

Thanks! I know it was a stupid question (but whoever came up with that could have made it simpler!!! -- Why couldn't it just be A & S?), but couldn't find the answer on my own and it was making me crazy.

Now that the craziness of adding a new baby to the family (and spending a lot of time helping out with the little ones), Oliver's eye scare, Christmas, New Year's, and a couple of snow storms and an ice storm, we now have arctic weather when I could be out playing with my camera. I have taken a lot of photos, still need to download them and start going through them ... sometimes I think that's the best way to learn. The main reason I bought this new camera was to get better photos of my grand-baby girls. This is one of the first ones I took of the two of them together. Maybe it's the Grandma gene, but I think this one is a keeper. I'm always open for critiques and criticism.

Thanks Isaac and Tina. This was the first time that Julia was placed in Emily's arms the day she was born. Julia started to cry; Emily, the gentle soul that she is, tried her best to comfort her new baby sister. I was so taken by her response that I almost didn't get the picture. What a memorable moment caught "on film."

Cindy: Did Emily have dark hair like Julia when she was born (I can't remember). She is such a little blondie now, but her lashes are dark. Just wondered. I just came back for another look at your picture.....

Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Thanks, Stella. I still have a lot to learn in the world of digital photography, but this camera seems to be just what I was looking for ... taking good candids of Oliver and the girls. The price was reasonable enough that I'm not afraid to carry it around and give it a workout.

LOL, Tina, Emily was bald for her first year! (She probably had the largest collection of hats ever!) I was more than a little surprised when Julia arrived with a head full of dark hair. There's no question that she's ours :gig ... she looks just like her Daddy except he's a blue-eyed blond. My husband was a blue-eyed blond, my daughter had dark blond hair and brown eyes ... I'm the only one who had dark hair and eyes. Julia's completion is darker than Emily's. I imagine both girls will be their own person. I can't wait to see Julia's personality develop.
