My local camera store has a special relationship with Canon and they had the brand new T5i in stock and ready for sale weeks before the big box and online stores were scheduled to have theirs. I felt it was time to upgrade from my old Digital Rebel T2i, so I jumped at the chance to be one of the very first people in the USA to own one of Canon's latest and greatest Digital Rebels.

Here's a look at it...

Shown here with the 18-135mm STM lens and optional battery grip and lens hood

A cool feature is the articulating LCD screen on the back. It can swivel to face forward, or rotate up or down

I actually just got the camera today, so I've only taken a few test shots with it. Let's take a look...

Notice the detail of the pollen on the petals of this African Daisy in my back yard

This was the sunset tonight in Pismo Beach

Wide shot of a couple watching the sunset from the Pismo pier

A closeup as they go for the kiss! I don't think they even knew I was there.

This guy was watching the sunset, too. Or maybe he was watching the tourists.

Here's a colorful building near the Pismo pier.

If you are interested in one of the new Digital Rebel T5i cameras, you can order one from Amazon.com and they'll send a small commission my way that I can use to pay our web server costs.

Or... if you're interested in a heck of a deal on my old Digital Rebel T2i and the image stabilized lens that I've used to get many of my best photos over the last few years... send me a private message and let me know that you're interested.

I put together a web page about the new T5i... including a few additional new sample photos that I shot today. Take a look at http://www.zimfamilycockers.com/CanonDigitalRebelT5i.html

Nice pictures!

BTW, how does the T5i compared to the T2i in size and weight?

I love my 5D Mark III, but still keeps my T2i with a 35mm prime lens mounted because of its portability. While the T2i AF is definitely not the same as the 5D Mark III or the 7D, I think it was more than good enough for most of my shots.

from what i have read the t5i(700d) is a lot diffident front the t2i(550d) as far as touch screen, flippy screen, Digic 5 processor and some other filter add ons you will probably never use. i also have a 550d and still love it to death.. the one big plus that i consider a major win on the 700d is how all 9 focus points are cross type on the 700d. but for me its not enough to upgrade..

id say since you have the MKIII id wait to see if they do release the 7dMKII rumors say that the specs are the following
24.1mp APS-C Sensor
Dual DIGIC V
10fps
Dual Memory Card Slots (Unknown configuration)
61 AF Points (I wonder if we’ll get red focus points in AIS?)
3.2″ LCD
Build quality like 5D3
GPS & Wifi
ISO Performance to get close to the 5D3
“Lots of video features

^^^
thats is a show worth to see
but the 550d is still a very good camera
i use it at all events i cover along with my MKII

here are some samples with the 550d paired with the 24-70L and/or the 70-200L lens

I think the T2i is a very decent camera. And I have gotten lots of decent movement shots from Rose City 2011 and 2012 with that camera and two different consumer grade lenses. And most of my photos posted on Zim (except for a few taken before Christmas because I was practicing with the 7D and 5D Mark III) for my dogs inside the house were all taken with the T2i. While the AI Servo is not as strong as the 7D and 5D Mark III, it is good enough even when my dogs are jumping around inside the house.
