Today it has been 6 months since we laid Betty to rest. I have started to write a little something about her on this forum several times, but it always turns into something really long! So I will try to keep my remembrance short.

I adopted Betty from OBG Cocker Rescue in Virginia when I was 24 and she was about 7. I don’t know too much about her past, and what I do know, I won’t share here because it was so unpleasant that it may make you very sad. She came to me with a bunch of fears and issues. For whatever reason, we bonded absolutely instantly, and she trusted me completely from the moment I met her. That trust allowed me to work with her on all her issues, and she did overcome them all. Betty and I shared so many fun times, camping, hiking, exploring, going to barbecues and picnics and weddings, sharing a pizza on the couch, taking naps curled up together. We moved across the country together when I was 25, and we made a happy life together in Montana. She was my sidekick for 7 years, and I loved her so much. One of the things I am most proud of Betty for is that although she was originally quite scared of men, she came to love my husband so much too. She did not mind sharing my attention with him, and although she could be quite standoffish with people (never aggressive, but just completely disinterested!), she was extremely affectionate with him. The three of us were a very happy family. Betty was the most loyal and special dog that I have ever met, and I was blessed to have her. I miss her, but I am fortunate to have all my memories of her. I will never forget her and the role she played in my young adult life. I am also very amazed and happy that I have so much love for Blue after loving Betty so much. I sure do love that little guy too. They fill different spots in your heart!

It's very special to have a pup during that time of your life. I did, and she will forever be my true "heart pup." Mine also had to learn to accept "dad."

May your sweet memories of Betty warm your heart over and over. Thanks for being such a great mom to her.
