Today I lost a friend, a loved one, a companion who gave as much love as she received. I rarely get emotional, but every time I think about her I break down, she was everything I could have asked for. Her sidekick, my yellow lab, was starting to age, when I initially got the puppy its like my lab became a different dog, she always had more energy and was in high spirits. They would play for hours on end, it was so fun watching them; now the past few days it's like Aimee(lab) knows her friend is missing and sits in front of the back door waiting for her to finally come out so they can play. In the 2.5 years I had her she brought so much happiness, not only into my life, but with everyone she met. Every day coming home to a happy greeting, the fun times we had together I will never forget; I'm so glad the last day we had together was a blast. We went swimming in the rain, picked some walnuts, and did a little bird hunting. Those of you who do have companion know how much of an impact they can make on our lives, so cherish every moment you have with them. Her name was Dharma.
Love you Dhar =..)

So sorry for your loss. It does not matter how young they are, their company makes a great difference. My heart goes to you and to your lab who misses her greatly.

I'm so sorry for your loss - Dharma was beautiful! I know how much it hurts to lose them - and how long it takes to get over that hurt. You sound like a wonderful pet parent, Ryan, and I hope that some day you'll find another little wigglebutt to fill the hole in your heart. Take care.

What a loving tribute. But only 2 years old, so sad! What happened?

She passed from symptoms that pointed to rat poison. She was at my parents at the time and their neighbors kid being the devil child that he is, poisoned my dog. He killed one of the dogs they had a couple months earlier and my mother caught him one day poking at Dharma through the fence and split her head open, then we knew he was trouble...its a shame :(

I hope that kid's parents get him some help (mentally). We all know where animal abuse leads.

My thoughts exactly.
Hopefully the parents were made aware of your suspicions and will take some positive action.

After we confronted him about poking our dogs through the fence, a week later his mom summoned me over to the fence and she was emotional because the passing of her dog and was apologizing for her kids actions towards my dogs. I should have saw it coming; but I couldn't really do much to prevent the kid from doing anything since I was gone most days. I agree that he will move on to bigger deeds from this. I didn't report him but I am thinking of doing so since I just got another Cocker pup. I'm thinking of blocking that side of the fence a couple feet or so.

OMG! Please, for the safety of your new dog, don't leave it unattended in that yard, no matter how high the fence. And check the yard for anything a dog would be tempted to eat each and every time before you allow it in the yard. Doesn't take much to toss a piece of poisoned meat over a fence, and a few seconds for a dog to gulp it down.
And I would report your suspicions to the authorities before another dog or cat suffers a painful death. Something is very wrong here.
