I hope I'm doing this right.. I just lost my 4 year old beautiful cocker girl last Friday. It's been a week now and I still can't believe the pain. Coyotes got her. I cant stop thinking about the pain she suffered and I feel so guilty for not being there to save her. She was the best dog I've ever had. I'm still hanging on extremely tight to her memory. I'm not sure how to let go.

Yes, please keep your dogs safe! I thought I did but she pushed right through a window screen while I was away from home. Thank you all for the hugs. I need them now. I'll try to add a picture tomorrow. She was beautiful.

I'm so sorry for your terrible loss. That is one of my greatest fears too. We have had coyotes in our neighborhood. Our neighbor lost a yorkie to a coyote. They are horrible. Where do you live?

So very sorry for your loss! :cry My heart is breaking for you right now and I hope that you can come to terms with your loss of Lady. Please do take care and try to remember the good, funny times that you had with her.

I am very thankful for the warning too. :love We have a lot of "critters" around our home. I am forever fearful and watchful.... :roll

Julie I live in Reno Nevada very close to the Sierra mountains. We have coyotes everywhere. I have heard coyotes were recently spotted luring dogs to the pack. I heard them yipping last night just behind my house. They are not afraid hanging around where there are people. They can also jump fences. I hope know one has ever go through was I am. I have good days and bad days. Im considering getting a new puppy. I need the noise and distraction and over all happy feeling.

Thank you Dawn for your kind words. My heart is broken too. I keep thinking she is right behind me keeping me company. I hope she is.

So very sorry about your Lady. You have my deepest sympathy. Many of us on the forum know the hurt and pain you are going through in loosing your precious Cocker, Lady. Sending hugs and prayers for God's comfort for you.

My family lives in Reno. Per chance do you live in the Virginia Foothills? My kids owned a home there for awhile and lost two beautiful cats to coyotes. We also have coyotes and I can never let Reese out at night without first checking to make sure it's safe.

God bless you, Shawna. :hp

Again, my heart breaks for you. Yes, I've heard of them jumping fences in our neighborhood. I even read an article where a man said they weren't intimated by his 130 lb. Rottweiler. They are evil creatures.

Gail I live close to VC Foothills. Actually across the highway up toward Mt. Rose. Not far at all. That is one of the reasons I refuse to get a cat. I would be afraid to lose one. I never see cats outside in my neighborhood. So sorry they had to go through the same thing I did.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts, and prayers. It's all getting a little easier. I have avoided looking at videos and pictures since this last Friday. I think it has helped. I know I can never replace such a perfect dog but I can try to fill the void. I felt like I needed the life and energy back in my house. I'm getting a puppy this weekend. I will get another Cocker when the time is right. So for now Im getting a very lively border collie. His name is Maverick. :)

There but for the grace of God...

So many of us fear the coyotes. Your sad story is so close to home for many of us here on the forum. The coyotes have gotten a few dogs in our neighborhood. No matter how careful we are, some things are just beyond our control. How very sad for you. I don't walk Sadie like I walked our last dog because of the fear I have of a coyote attacking her. Here in SoCal they pulled dogs off their leashes and pulled little old ladies down the street, still hanging on to their dogs. It's scary. The coyotes have become desensitized to humans. They have no fear of us whatsoever.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you. May your sweet memories of Lady bring you comfort.

When Rusty went to the Rainbow Bridge, I began volunteering for rescue. Perhaps you could try that in honor of Lady. Who knows, maybe soon some cocker from this forum will capture your heart like Sadie did mine.

Sending you {{{HUGS}}}.

MJ I love that idea! I'll check it out. You are right. Maybe I'll find one that captures my heart. I hope so someday. I still have Ben my older cocker. He makes me smile all the time. He is so goofy! He is a big cuddled though and I need that now.

The coyotes are not at all afraid of people. I hear them behind my house almost every night. We have similar problems in my area. Quite a few of us have horses and like to take our dogs riding on the trails with us. Just about a week ago a lady was riding and had to chase a coyote away on her horse. When she stopped chasing it, the coyote just stopped and stared. This was in daylight in an open area. They have no fear. I was careful before but now windows and doors get closed at night and at all hours when I'm not home. You are so smart to only walk your dog when it's hopefully safe. I'm bringing a pellet gun on my walks. At least to scare something away if I have to.

Thanks for the hugs!

I'm going to get a medium-sized pepper spray. They make it in three sizes that I know of. I have the small one - for use on humans, but that won't do much against a coyote. Then there is a medium size for medium animals - which I'm going to get for the coyotes. The larger size is commonly used as bear spray. You might consider that, too. You have an advantage, you probably can use a pellet gun. It's against the law here - something about living in "town" :dk :dk :gig

That's a good idea too. Actually it isn't legal to shoot an animal without a hunting license but you can if you are protecting your livestock including dogs. I know a K9 sheriff who told me that today. I think we should have a bounty on them. There are that many. They give me the creeps now. I used to enjoy seeing them but now I realize they aren't just after bunnies.

I've seen people in our neighborhood walk their dogs with golf clubs. I took Mulligan out for a walk at 8:00 tonight and was watching vigilintly. I think next time I'll take a golf club.

I have taken an old driver with me, but think the pepper spray would be much more effective. I felt like the crazy ol' lady in the neighborhood carrying the club.
