My wife and I lost our Dixie to IMHA a few days ago. Very difficult times. I have since wrote a letter to our beloved Miss Dixie.

Dear Dixie,

Where do I begin? It's difficult thinking and realizing you aren't here by my side. My writing partner. My best friend. My girl! For the last 8 years you for exceeded my expectations beyond any imagination I could have dreamed up. You're forever etched in my heart and memory. Everything from here on out in life must now be compared to the most wonderful and special dog of all time -- you! You set the bar high with moments in our lives that will be hard to compete against from here on out.

You're still teaching me life lessons. The water bottles, remember? You used to love chewing on an empty water bottle. I'd watch you play with those for hours upon hours. The L.A. lime tree, remember? You could find that one lime. That one lime I threw in the pile of 50 others alike. You'd dig your nose in, put your rear end in the air and have that nub wiggle like there was no tomorrow. Without you Miss Dixie, we are not intact? The only part about this I question is, what does all this mean? Our lives did cross for one reason or another. You made a huge impact on me and there was a lot more on our agenda for you.

I love those freckles. Your smile. Your pant. How you sat. How you greeted me every morning. Your walk. Your pomp. Those ears. And those long beautiful eyelashes. But above all, it was those innocent-pretty eyes. Those eyes were embedded with spunk and personality that could never be replicated.

Every time I walked through our door, no matter what, you were there. You were the best greeter. It made coming home a pure joy knowing you'd be there waiting for me. You loved to jump up into my legs and melt your little body into them. I can't wait for that special greet, when one day we DO meet again.

I hope you know I gave you my all.

I love you Dixie-

I'm sorry for your loss. As someone currently helping their dog fight IMHA, I know what a terrible disease it is and how awful it is to watch a pup suffer from it. Run Dixie....you can now.

I am very sorry for your loss. I too lost my 2 yr old baby to IMHA and I understand how you feel-it is devastating to lose a baby to a disease you probably never heard of before.

Thanks for the warm replies. I really appreciate it during our tough time.

As much work as a cocker is to maintain, I think they're wonderful and amazing breed. All the pictures of other cockers on this site puts a smile on my face.

I am sorry for your loss. I have found this forum to be so refreshing as to how everyone has such a kind word in your hour of grief.
I have found out all the tears do not bring your precious furever friend back and nothing can replace her.
i have been shown by this forum remember the good days and you can begin to smile again.

It has been 53 weeks today since i held my Oreo and i cannot come to terms with that feeling.

I can say this forum is wonderfull

I thought I'd add some pictures. The pictures are of Dixie as a pup, four years old and a shot taken two weeks ago.

This all seems like yesterday when I held this small little ball of fur in my hands.

It's been a week since Miss Dixie Passed. It still feels like yesterday. I refuse to move her bowl. Or vacuum the spot where sat next to me in my office. Our house is quiet without her. Just those little things we miss that much more. Her scratching. Pawing at our legs for a quick pat on the head. Her adorable honk as she snoozed. Her toe nails tapping on the tile floor as she trotted by.

Even Rio our extremely active Boxer is moping around. She can't get up. All she knows is Dixie.

I want this pain to go away-- but really I don't.

It's been well over a year since Miss Dixie passed and I still get emotional thinking of her. Nothing has ever effected me as much as this. And I've experienced death many times in my life time.

Here is a letter my wife wrote to our beautiful Dixie. We both still talk about her constantly and reminisce about her.

To my Dixie Ann,

There are truly not enough words to express how much you mean to me, and this letter will never do you the justice you deserve.
My baby angel, I can’t believe you are gone. I am filled with such an emptiness and can’t imagine anyone can feel this pain. Saying I was blessed to have you in my life is the biggest understatement one can make.

Back in May 2004, I was looking for a little bundle of joy to fill a spot in my aching heart. I’ll never forget how you bounded out of the cage in the puppy store and ran to me. Little did I know at that point how much you would fill our lives with such immense happiness.

How I will miss your personality and quirks. How you would walk under my legs as if you were walking under a bridge. How you would rub your face into my legs. How you would circle and circle until attempting to jump up on a piece of furniture. How you would paw at my hands as I was trying to tie my shoelaces for our daily walks. How you would dance about as we got ready to leave the house.

Though I would gripe most mornings when you woke me so early, I would give anything to continue our routine. We would walk in the cold, the Las Vegas heat, the wind, even the rain. You loved it all and would walk for miles. You trotted around our neighborhood, looking for new smells (even though we walked the same path daily).

Your mom loves you more than you can possibly know. I am devastated by your passing and wish you could have had a miracle. You didn’t deserve such an early departure and especially not the way it occurred.

I told Rio I would write a sentence for her. She dearly misses her big sister and is lost without your guidance, direction, and protection.
Dixie, thank you for bringing your dad and me such love and joyous memories. I know the pain we feel is because of how priceless you are.

You will always be my baby angel.

I'm in tears again. What a lucky little girl she was to have had you as her humans
