Hi everyone. I posted a few days ago about the puppy I am getting next month. I am new to the cocker world and the reading I have done on colors and genetics is very confusing. Not that color and pattern is my main focus, I will love my puppy no matter what but I was hoping the markings on my puppy would be more noticable by now. The puppy looks like a red and white parti to me but the 'red' looks so 'blonde' to me. The puppy is 4 weeks old right now, is it too early? The mother was a red and white parti and dad was blonde. Can someone help me...spam me with info. I've never seen a white cocker with blonde spots, which is what my puppy looks like, that's why I'm thinking the red just hasn't darkened up yet. Someone please explain

I got a new photo of the puppy today and still see no change. So he's a definite red and white parti?

What color is the body and the legs of your pup? It is very difficult to tell in the latest pics on your the link.

But, based on what I can see in the 2 pictures on the link, which is primarily his face, IMHO, I think your pup just might be a buff pup with white markings on his face. From the pics he looks to have a mostly solid buff color body.

Thank you. I was hoping he would be a white and red parti :(. His body is white and the markings look to be buff right now.

Would this be a white and parti or more of a white and buff? Trying to get an idea in my head.

If the pup's body is white, then he could still be a red & white parti, it is just that his 'red' is a very light color.
In the upper right corner of the forum screens are 2 red & white parti pups. In my opinion, your pup's red will not be as dark as on the two Zim pups.

Either way, I am sure you will love him just as much.

The dog in the Christmas pic looks like a red & white parti, IMHO.

Your puppy is quite definitely a red & white parti. There's no doubt about that. But what you're really asking is... "how dark is the red in my red & white parti puppy going to get?"

Pictures of the parents can give you a little bit of a clue, as could pictures of any grown-up pups from previous litters. But those would only be clues... not a definitive answer. Only time will tell how the pup will turn out, and that's part of the fun of Cocker coat colors.

It's important for you to understand that with red & white Cockers, it is VERY common for the red color to be very faint in a young puppy and for that color to darken up over a period of months. That doesn't mean that every red & white puppy will darken up over time, but a lot do. I saw this quite frequently with our red & white puppies back in the days when we were breeding.

For example, here's "Dodger" at one month old:

and Dodger at nine months old:

I hope that helps you see what the possibilities are.
