I just had a strange thought (I get lots of them to be honest!) after taking Buddy to the vet on Friday. He had to had a toenail partially ripped off that the vet took off. We're not sure how badly he damaged the nail bed so we don't know if the nail will grow back or not. He's feeling great and you'd never know he had it removed except for his funny haircut on the paw.

But anyway, getting to my question. Because this isn't a genetic thing, just something that can happen will a dog be penalized in the show ring if it? I know most of the show dogs are regular dogs at home and considering Buddy tore his nail on the carpet (we think we weren't home when it happened) I know it can happen randomly. Anyway I just had the thought and I knew the best place to go for the answers. Thanks and have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season.

Should have no impact for conformation. I doubt a judge would ever know.

I know of a dog that had to have a toe removed due to an infection and still went Best in Show. Because of the length of a cocker show coat, most judges won't even be aware of such injuries-- they just don't go over them that closely.
