The rally trial this weekend was really good! I was quite concerned about how my dogs would work for me, as Jack Jack was really disengaged in St. Louis this summer. Both dogs surprised me in a great way. Grace earned her CARO Rally Novice title (CRN) with the MCL (magna cum laude) designation for having an average score of greater than 190 out of 200. Her work was really nice. She had a few bobbles (she really doesn’t do well with come front exercises as she tends to want to auto finish to the left, no matter what I ask for), but she was happy, which was nice. She also earned her CARO Rally Novice Team (CRNT) title – Team is where one dog and handler do the first 10 signs and another dog and handler do the second 10 signs. Grace worked with a Standard Poodle named Quazi and they won the class (which had 6-7 teams in it) two out of three times, with a 195 and a 196 out of 200. Their other score was also in the 190’s. Jack Jack earned his CRN with the CL (cum laude) designation for having an average score of greater than 180 out of 200. In fact, his average score was 189 I think, so he was very close to earning the MCL designation. He also earned two legs towards his CRNT title, but on the second run on Sunday his handler messed up big time, so they failed the run. He worked with a Standard Poodle named Phara and they were working with a score of 198 until I did the station wrong, which is a fail in CARO. Sigh. Still, we came home with three new titles between the two dogs and TONS of Q ribbons. Plus we had fun. We had good runs where the dogs connected with me and worked with me. I ran both dogs in Advanced on Sunday (off-leash) and Gracie passed everything except for the “Send to Jump” exercise. I couldn’t get her to go out and go over the jump (you send the dog from a box that is 10 feet distance from the jump and must stay behind a line that is 6 feet wide of the jump). She’s not using to going out and working away from me. She did everything else perfectly. Jack Jack didn’t do as well as she did, but he tried really hard and I was super proud of how well he worked. This weekend was the first time EVER in rally or obedience that Jack Jack has worked with me . . . without constantly sniffing and trying to check everything out. He did some sniffing, but not much.

CARO is the Canadian Association of Rally O, which was in place long before the Canadian Kennel Club started to offer rally titles.

Ooh well done to all your team! So I wonder where the UK system of having the basic 200 points with an optional 10 point bonus exercise came from if you don't have it in the US or Canada? All 3 of our rally clubs do it!
