I have been dealing with a torn meniscus since April 2. I finally was able to see the orthopedic surgeon again on Wednesday. He worked me into the surgery schedule for Thursday. The surgery went well. I will probably be off work for 3 to 4 weeks. I have four part time jobs and two of them are mad about the short notice I would be off work. I had no idea I was going to have the surgery that soon. I have the feeling I am only going to have two jobs after my recovery.

My youngest son called while I was in the recovery room. He dropped a bombshell on us. He is leaving in two weeks for six months in Afghanistan. We had no idea he was even thinking about volunteering to go. He is a government contractor and also a Navy Reservist. The Navy is NOT the one sending him over there. What is even more surprising, this same son has been planning a family vacation in October. He rented a house on the beach in Pensacola for all of us. We just got our airline tickets a few weeks ago. Now the vacation is cancelled. I think his timing to make this announcement was not good. My BP had been high before and during surgery and it spiked up again after he called.

I am going to be at home, bored, trying to navigate my walker around six Cockers. I will probably be making some more craft items for Cocker Rescue. Check them out!

If anyone can spare some good healing thoughts I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I'm sorry things are going as they are -- just when you could look forward to a vacation by the beach you'll be worrying about your son oversees. I'll pray for your swift recovery as well as his safety.
As for your jobs, I don't know if FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) assists those with part time hours? It's a shame temporary help couldn't be brought in to help out until you got back to work. I hope your furkids won't be underfoot too much and will become your blessing in disguise, which for a long recovery at home, I'm sure the company will be welcome.
I hope you find the surgery has relieved your discomfort!

Hoping you heal fast, and lots of prayers for your son's safe return.

Good luck with healing. It sounds as if you have enough on your plate to give anyone indigestion! I hope your two jobs that seem so unsupportive get a grip and realize this isn'tsomething you chose just to stick it to them.

To qualify for FMLA:

In general, to be eligible an employee must have worked for an employer for at least 12 months, have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12 months preceding the leave, and work at a site with at least 50 employees within 75 miles.

There are some other requirements, too, but these are the main ones for eligibility.

I am not so sure about the #of employees. Our company has 45 employees and offers FMLA to all. We can take up to 12 weeks each year and there is no requirement to work 12 months between the leave times.

Thanks everyone for the get well wishes. The stitches were removed on Thursday. I am walking without the walker now and I even did a little driving today to do errands. It is not easy because my right knee was the one operated on. The doctor thinks I can go back to work after my next checkup on the 18th.

My nasty boss backed off when I sent her the doctor's note. I guess the photos of my knee after the surgery were not proof enough. LOL

I will be glad when I can take the Cocker crew for a walk. DH has been taking them, three at a time.

I am still sitting with my knee propped up, crocheting more Brain Balls to sell for Cocker Rescue. A person can only read so many books and watch so many movies!
