The problem I see is aspirin can be very irritating to her tummy. I would ask about buffer aspirin as I think it is safer for dogs. :dk . I really think I'd pose your question to her vet.

Yes, my vet once suggested giving like a quarter aspirin to my dog who we thought had back pain. I remember a quarter of an aspirin but don't remember how many milligrams that was. I gave twice a day, but only for a few days. Best check with your vet how many mg per dose given your dog's weight, how many times a day, and if long-term use would be safe.

Just wanted to add, if cost is your issue, have you checked for online pet prescriptions? My dog was also prescribed Metacam...the vet charged like 4x the cost on the internet for the same product and volume. The vet couldn't believe either how cheap it was online for the same product and actually said I was doing right by purchasing online rather than from him, and that his clinic should look into changing suppliers. I just had to pay the vet for the prescription to send to the online company as they don't sell the products without prescription from vet. Tramadol was also much cheaper online....however, isn't this the drug that can also make dogs act a bit dizzy/out of it?

I had a Lab that was on aspirin in the past and it caused terrible bloody diarrhea. It was regular Bayer baby aspirin. Maybe buffered would nt cause this? Just be on the watch for blood in stool. Best of luck!! Denise

Way back when, my vet suggested I give my Golden Retriever aspirin because I wasn't working at the time. His tummy became upset after a few weeks so I really had to switch him to prescription pain relievers. If you try it, be sure to give it to him right after he eats. You might try shopping around for the pain reliever. Some vets charge less than others. You may also find it less expensive on-line. Just be sure to find a reputable site.

Of the three meds you mentioned, two are animal only but tramadol can be bought at a human pharmacy. You might check cost there if you're going to continue to use it. Depending on what your vet thinks/prescribes you might be able to get it on the $4 generic drug list.

If you can get the vet to write a prescription, I know you can get Tramadol for $4 at Target so you probably can at any of the $4 drug locations.
