Dusty & Rocky are very allergy-prone and have flare-ups during the typical allergy seasons - like now.
I had been giving them Missing Link for years, but have recently switched to an Omega 3 gel-cap - it's not dog specific - I bought it at Trader Joe's in the people supplements. My vet suggested one that has a high EPA content. They've been on it for about 3 or 4 weeks & I do think it's helping although it's not a miracle cure.

:lol The vet prescribed some for Maddie - I bought directly from them. I did see an improvement, but like you said, it's not a miracle cure :wnk

I put a squirt of herring oil (high in omega-3) on their food every day. It seems to help a bit with allergies and as a bonus gives them a really shiny coat.

I used fish oil on Oliver and Annie's lunch until we changed them over to an all fish based diet -- food, treats, and dehydrated fish skins for chews. I imagine that they are getting enough Omega 3 that they don't need a supplement.

Yes, Gromit has allergies, and gets an omega 3 capsule hidden in about a tablespoon of wet food daily. Not sure if it's helping, but it can't hurt! My vet said it improves the efficiency of allergy meds (antihistamine), too.

Darjee gets a Salmon Oil soft gel cap as a treat after breakfast (and after supper, too, if I remember to give it). It's her "salmon candy" and she loves it. I had to look long and hard to find one that didn't have soy and right now I'm using Carlson's Norwegian salmon oil that I found at Vitamin Cottage. They're 1000 mg; 360 mg EPA & 250 mg DHA.
I take Cod Liver Oil for myself but CLO is rather high in vitamin D for dogs.

Zanna was recently to her dermatologist, she said that she has suggested "MegaRed" to her clients. She said within a few weeks that the change in their skin and coat was remarkable. So guess we'll be trying that one next!

I had to look up "MegaRed" - didn't know that it was krill oil. :goof I've heard that is supposed to be the best kind of fish oil now for both humans & animals. Krill is a crustacean and since I'm allergic to all shellfish, I haven't tried it. I'll be interested to hear though what you think of it for Zanna.

I also looked up MegaRed and it sounds really good. I think I may have to try it for myself, my husband and the dogs :-)

I use Veterinary strength Missing Link, which is very high in Omega 3's. Right now only Farley gets it - for his senior confusion and possible kidney issues.

One of our vets said it is a great anti-inflammatory. He recommended it for ear inflammations. Another holistic vet recommended coconut oil and Sam-E for senior confusion, just started one of my senior rescues on this.

The SamE I highly recommend! With Zanna having to take steroids on and off, the SamE has saved her liver. You can read about it on any Vet website about meds. There is a doggie version of it, but the people version is cheaper. I get it at costco.

I use Yumega which has Omega 3 in it, it's excellent for restoring coat. At least it worked after the last litter, I hope it works this time too, Ellie's chest and throat look like a Chinese Crested!!

I use salmon oil and find it very effective for their skin, coat and joints.
