Ava is 10 months old and has had three eye infections all in the same eye. The first time I took her to the vet and he prescribed an ointment to put in 3 times a day for 5 days which I did and it cleared up. The second time 2 months later, I put the ointment in myself and it cleared up again. Yesterday, she woke up with it again so I'm doing the ointment and it looks 100% better today. When she gets these, it almost looks like cherry eye -- the folds in the lower/inner eye are up higher; the white of the eye is red and she has yellowish discharge. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent this -- the vet had no suggestions. Ava is a poster-child for clean ears with the Zim Ear Cleaner solution -- is there an "eye maintenance" solution out there?

It might be worth checking with an eye specialist. It's not uncommon for one or more of the lower lashes to be growing in toward the eye (not always visible with the naked eye), which will cause an irritation, an infection, and could eventually cause an ulcer or something like a callus on the eye. The eye doctor can easily remove these lashes permanently.

Our Molly has Episcleritis. What you describe sounds a lot like what her eyes looked like. Here is a link to an article about the disease:

A trip to the ophthalmologist might be in order. I know it can be expensive, but it was such a relief to have a diagnosis. One vet thought it might be a brain tumor. After that, episcleritis was a relief!

That's exactly what happened with Poppy, Cindy. She had these lashes irritating her eyes constantly. They froze them to remove the follicle and we haven't had a problem since. :Clap

What area of the country are you in, Lauren? We really need to find you a veterinary ophthalmologist for you to take Ava. It was well worth the money, and surprisingly not as expensive as I had thought it would be. Better than having a regular vet treat the condition incorrectly (which did happen to my previous dog - for a 2 year period!).
