Just saw today that the grocery store finally has canned pumpkin! Last week I bought a pie pumpkin, sliced it and microwaved it, etc, and added it to my homemade dogfood that I have been making for several months now. It made alot of pumpkin, but what a mess I made in my kitchen! But the poops have been great with extra pumpkin in their food! I think I will continue with the homemade pumpkin for the fall-I will boil it next time, maybe not as messy, but I will be stocking up on canned pumpkin later on this fall! Don't want another shortage like last year!

BTW, several weeks ago I ran out of my homemade food, so I opened a can of Wellness 95% beef-Callie had the runs for a week! Once she got back on my "good stuff" she got back to normal.

My recipe:

2-3 lbs 93% ground beef or turkey
2 tubs chicken livers
1 frozen bag green beans
1 frozen bag broccoli
2 large sweet potatoes
handful cranberries
pumpkin

I either mix it together or grind in the blender, depending on my mood. I mix it in with their dry kibble-I use it as a canned food topper. They get their meat, potato and vegetable, which is a balanced meal!

Hi Sandy...

I noticed that pumpkin was back too! Hopefully this was a better year for them!

Thanks for the recipe... Chessie would love this!

Sandy, how do you cook the turkey and chicken livers? Just fry it up?

I fry the turkey and boil the liver, then I throw the frozen vegies in with the liver. Last time I let the cranberries boil also a bit, scooped out the cranberries and put them aside when I ground the stuff together, then put them at he top of the containers, since Callie is the only one that really needs them, and just give them to her. It really only takes about an hour, and pricewise is cheaper than spending $2.19 a can for Wellness.

Sounds like a good one to try. How much do you feed each meal?

I feed a tablespoon each meal. I did find organic pumpkin at my local grocer, at $2.59 a can! Man, I hope the dogs enjoy it.
