Dear Clients,

Due to the recent outbreak of CIV (Canine Influenza Virus) in the Bay Area, we at Heritage Veterinary Hospital are recommending clients with dogs who are at risk for contracting CIV call us immediately to schedule an appointment to obtain the CIV vaccination.

Canine Influenza Virus causes respiratory symptoms similar to those experienced by humans with the flu. Symptoms may include coughing, sneezing, fever, lethargy, and discharge from the nose or eyes. It is recommended that dogs that visit places such as doggy daycare, dog parks, boarding facilities, pet food stores, groomers or anywhere dogs interact be vaccinated for CIV.

Patients who are receiving the canine influenza vaccination for the first time will need to return for a booster in 2-5 weeks after the initial vaccination to provide effective protection. Please call us at (707) 576-0764 to schedule an appointment, or to see if the vaccination is right for your pet.

Regards, your Veterinary Care Team at Heritage Veterinary Hospital
