Hi all,

Maya, my 5yr old chocolate female cocker has torn her cruciate :-(. We are booked for ex cap surgery on April 13/16 and she is currently taking tramadol and metacam as we wait til surgery day. I was hoping if anyone has been through this and can share advice about the surgery, post op care, recovery time etc. My BIG problem will probably be the fact that I have 4 dogs (incl Maya)......3 cockers (7 yrs, 5 yrs/Maya and 3 yrs old) AND a 10 month old Labrador Retriever. I know it will be tough to strict rest Maya after the surgery but I'm ready for the challenge :-D. It really wont be easy ugh. Sooo, any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

To add to this.... Maya is in remission from ITP (similar to IMHA but platelets are attacked rather than red blood cells) so we have to be very careful, during this surgery, that she avoids anything that could trigger her disease to be active again (ie certain antibiotics etc). Just more to worry about.....

Thanks for any input,
Janet, Riley, Maya, Sam & Quinn

Just do some reading . Me I would not do the surgery maybe the stem cells and keep the dog mostly in the house, as it will take several months and if you feed a rich diet with cartilage it could heal by it's self too. Operation repair is three grand and the stem cells two grand where I live. Some in here didn't do anything. Lose weight?
