Hi,

My guy Maximus stays in the kitchen all day while we are at work.... He is used to this and has not had a problem for the last 2 years... ( He is 3 years of age now.) But a number of times during the last 2 weeks he has wet the floor. I looked on camera and I was surprised to find that it was not at the end of the day that this happened but at about 12:30pm... Just a few hours after we left for work... He is always walked twice in the morning...

What could be causing this? He does not seem to be having any pain or trouble peeing.

Thanks

I'd have him tested for UTI, anyway

UTI test should be done. If that is negative I would then test for things that might make him drink more (and therefore pee more) such as diabetes and Cushings Disease.

Thanks guys...

Any other symptoms of Diabetes and/or Cushings?

Took him to the vet last night and the took a urine specimen... Would that tell them anything?

It will tell them if he has a urinary tract infection. Depending on the tests they run it could determine if he has diabetes. When my little Punkin developed diabetes, we noticed that her urine was sticky when it had dried a little. She also drank A LOT of water until we got her blood sugar levels back to near normal. Diabetes is controllable, but can be daunting if you don't have any experience with it.

Is he just going once? Or is it lots of small accidents?

Cushing's syndrome is where your dog produces too much of a steroid called Cortisol. It usually affects middle-aged and older dogs, and the symptoms are hard to spot for the average pet owner.

Typical symptoms can include:

Is thirstier than usual
Seems hungrier
Pees more often. Housebroken dogs may have indoor accidents.
Loses hair or it seems slow to grow
Gets a pot belly
Has thinning skin
Seems very tired and inactive
Pants a lot
Gets skin infections

Peeing just once in a whole day doesn't sound like my experience with either diabetes or urinary tract infections. With those, my dog tended to go small amounts fairly often.

Keep us posted on how Max is doing. We'll be sending positive thoughts for a good outcome.

I agree with Susan that only once a day accidents don't seem indicative of Cushings or diabetes although I personally would still check just because I'm overly cautious. So, figuring that would be negative, since it's starting to get cooler? If your heat is starting to come on could it be drier in the house which will lead to more drinking which will lead to more of the obvious.

Just another thought...is something happening outside the house at that time everyday? Deliveries, postman, neighbors coming home, new dog walking by?
