I have found that many dog owners in our area do not know that mushrooms in our yards and along our sidewalks can kill our dogs. I do not know about mushrooms from the store, but I would not take the risk. I am consumed with trying to help my cocker who is sick. But if you Google it, you will find the info. Also, we think her liver disease may have been caused by mushrooms or coffee grounds years ago.

Thank you for reminding everyone about this danger. Years ago my golden/setter Nicky got sick while my parents were dogsitting-they think he ate mushrooms in the backyard based on a few half eaten. He was pretty sick for a few days, vomiting, diahrea, etc, but recovered, thanks to my mom's chicken soup(that Jewish pennicillin works wonders!) I ALWAYS pluck the mushrooms out of my dog pen when I scoop the poop.

My little goat, Emma, eats ANYTHING she finds interesting and several years ago ended up at the emergency vet after eating a mushroom. We're pretty sure that's what she ate from the yard just from examining the "evidence." She was very sick and needed IV fluids, but we got her in quickly and within 24 hours was back to herself. I am constantly patrolling the yard and removing mushrooms and other "edibles." I keep hoping she'll grow out of it, but she'll be 5 this year and still loves acorns, crepe myrtle buds and bugs. Eww.
