I have decided to leave my cocker's eyelashes intact instead of shaving them. My question is should I trim them?

I love Cici's long eyelashes. When I took her to the groomer, I asked for them not to be shaved, so they just trimmed them at the ends. I do the same when grooming her at home now - still long, but not crazy long as they can get.

I just monitor them to make sure they are not poking her eye or growing in weird directions.

Just wanted to add that I know many may disagree, but I think the eyelashes do serve a purpose keeping dust etc out of the eye, so I find shaving them rather bizarre. I realize a cocker's eyelashes can get far too long to be practical, so keeping them at a reasonable length has worked for Cici. And they look so pretty.

I've always wondered about why they are shaved off completely. Even my Doberman had short lashes! Never thought to shave those off!

I will trim Hobbes' eyelashes, but never shave them off completely. I don't want the eyelashes to bother him or get dirt in his eyes, but they're so cute so I don't shave them.

Thanks for all your advice. Show people all cut eyelashes. I realize it maybe to ward off infection. But I will trim but not cut off. Thanks again.

Hi! I keep Lola's eyelashes trimmed really short because they seem to interfere with her vision when they are long. When her lashes are really long, I've noticed that she is very reactive on the leash. My theory is that her lashes impede her peripheral vision and she is more easily startled by someone/something approaching from the rear/side.

You mean "crazy long", like my Sammy's lashes? I've been told that the "show" people cut them off because otherwise they look "unkept". Sammy's have been trimmed back some since these photos were taken, but his are still left natural. But then, he also has a long, natural tail, like God gave him, too.

OMG....those are some insanely long, but beautiful lashes. I think show people should trim them down so they look neat, but not take them off completely. They are beautiful.

I suppose it also depends on the direction they grow in. Cici's are more upturned, so they are less likely to poke her eyes. But there can always be those strays we have to watch for!

As for Cici's tail, it always saddens me to say that her first owner chopped it off completely. There is little to no tail left. You can see a nub shake when she wags, but there is literally no tail. I don't know what idiot she was with.
