Your "rank" on the forum

There's a line of text that is displayed under your name, to the left of any posts you make on the forum. It is known as your "rank".

If you are a forum member, but have never made a post... your rank is "forum member".

If you are a forum member, and you have made at least two posts... your rank is "active member".

There are also "rescue section moderators" and "forum moderators"... and I am the "Site Admin".

But there are also several special ranks for you special people...

If you have a Zim dog at your house... your rank should be "I Own A Zim Dog".

If you have a Cocker at your house that came from a shelter, rescue group, or was retired by a breeder... your rank should be "I Rescued A Cocker".

If you are actively involved with a Cocker rescue group... your rank should be "I Rescue Cockers".

If your rank is not being displayed correctly, please send me a private message on the forum... and I will get it set correctly. With as many forum members as we have, it is impossible for me to remember who has a rescue dog and who is involved in Cocker rescue... so please be sure to let me know so that I can give you the rank you deserve!

Jim -
Any chance of us having "Custom" ranks?

In most of my forums my (when available) "rank" reads, "Alta Cocker"! :ROFL
Some here will know what that means... :gig

Seriously? Breeder re-homes are considered rescues?

I suppose that would depend on the breeder, huh? I would not consider my retired girl a rescue. She was, and still is, a gift.

Um, I totally disagree that dogs re-homed from breeders are rescues . . . that's nowhere NEAR rescue!

I have to agree with Julie, Karen and Kelly on this one ... after all, are Reese and Haley rescues or rehomes (for example)?

Personally, I'm not into ranks or titles, etc. If I had to pick one, it would probably be "Rescued by Cockers," or "Allowed to live with the Spaniels." LOL.

While others might disagree, I don't consider breeder re-homes, puppies purchased from pet stores, puppy mills, or BYB's to be rescues.

I wouldn't want my Rank to indicate "rescue" either when it comes to my precious Paisley :hp . I thank Erika and Ryan every chance that I get that they gave my family an opportunity to be this darlings second home. Karen said it perfectly...she was a gift.

Re-homed is not rescue IMO.....some may be but most are not so you either own a Cocker or rescued a Cocker

Personally I would like to see "owned by a Cocker" or "rescued by a Cocker....

I think my rank should read 'obsessive poster' because of how many thousands of posts I had before we lost everything! :chk

:hi Reese was a very precious gift :hp , given to us by the Zims, taken directly from their home to our home, thus, a "Rehome." Also, Haylee was a gift to Sylvia, straight from the Zim home and delivered to Sylvia's home - a "Rehome."

In my opinion, "Rescue" carries a very different connotation than "Rehome." There is an entirely different process involved with a "Rescue."

Wayne and I are very happy with our rank, "I Own A Zim Dog."

Moderators please remove this if I overstepped here as I dont want to cause any problems but I was curious as to what the definitions were of each word and these are what came up in Google search.

Definitions of rescue on the Web

*delivered from danger
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* free from harm or evil
* take forcibly from legal custody; "rescue prisoners"
* recovery or preservation from loss or danger; "work is the deliverance of mankind"; "a surgeon's job is the saving of lives"
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* Rescue refers to operations that usually involve the saving of life, or prevention of injury.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue

Definitions of rescued dog on the Web:

* A Rescued dog (or 'Rescue dog') is a dog that has been rescued from possible euthanasia in an animal shelter, that has been saved from an abusive or severely neglectful home, or that is simply no longer wanted by its owner. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescued_dog

REHOME
Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Jump to: navigation, search
[edit] English
[edit] Etymology

re- +‎ home
[edit] Verb

to rehome (third-person singular simple present rehomes, present participle rehoming, simple past and past participle rehomed)

1. (transitive) To find a new home for (especially of pets).

The cat recovered after treatment by a vet and has now been rehomed.

Sorry but to me if you save the life of an abused or neglected animal I would consider it to be Rescued
That said it would also appear to me that once the animal is out of harm and in foster or a shelter where it is safe it would then be considered a Rehome situation. I guess it can be taken both ways depending on who see's it one way or the other.

OK folks - what this comes down to is agreeing to disagree. Jim feels a breeder placement is a Rescue, and most of us don't. He's not changing his mind, and for me - I'm not changing mine. :raz Difference of opinion ..

As a moderator, I think those of you who have re-homed should request forum member or whatever rank it is. Abby girl is looking down saying "okay, I was a rescue just like Sailor and Gabby....so be it." And yes Gail, Reese is a gift and a rescue. She rescued your heart just as Abby girl rescued mine.

Having said this, the bottom line is we can agree to disagree but it's Jim's call.

****Even better idea**** do away with ranking all together. Moderators can be designated so members know who to contact in case of a problem or question and the rest of the members can be loving Cocker owners.

I do not agree to rehome a dog is a rescue. To rescue a dog is a rescue. To rehome is to rehome. Sorry... but I think that it should be up to each person on what title/rank they want on their avatar.
Jim.... do you really feal your dogs were rescued from you? no disrespect

Yes - everyone SHOULD choose their "ranking" - just let Jim know what you want it to say!

I agree, it's Jim's call and I highly respect him. Hopefully I can keep the "rank" of, "I own a Zim dog."

Just to clarify something...

I'm not going to assign a "rank" to anyone unless they ask for it. So, for example, even if I think your dog was rescued... your rank will not be changed to "I Rescued A Cocker" unless you contact me and request it.

So, the possible "ranks" are:

Forum Member
Active Forum Member
Forum Moderator
Site Admin
I Rescued A Cocker
I Rescue Cockers
I Own A Zim Dog

If you feel that one of those applies to you (and it's not the rank you already have!) please let me know by sending me a private message.

By the way... the moderator team and I have decided that we will not have moderators who are limited to only the rescue section. All forum moderators now have the ability to moderate the entire forum... so there is no longer a rank of "Rescue Section Moderator".
