I'm glad you started the Facebook group, Becky! (And I'm glad you reminded me who started it, because I couldn't remember!)

I think the Facebook group has been a really good addition to the overall mix of the ways that we get Cocker lovers together and get them talking.

I especially like that it's so easy in the Facebook group to snap a picture on your smartphone and share it with the group. I really like seeing new photos every day of all the great Cockers out there.

I vote to keep the forum in any way that works for you, Jim. I am no longer a moderator due to time constraints, but I am usually on here daily looking at the new posts and helping, if I can. I think however it best works for you is what you should do and we will be forever grateful.

Wow, what a sad disappointment about shutting down the forum. I did not even know that there was a Facebook page. I just joined it, but nope there is no comparison to the forum. There is so much knowledge to be gained and I have even made friends on the forum! I had my puppy cam link on the forum and one of your members even called me when she thought that Gemma escaped!
I do hope that you will continue. I for one do often research items I need reference on. Facebook just would not be the same!

Jim,

I've watched as the forum dwindled and knew that this day.. this decision would be coming.

Gut reaction .... my stomach dropped. Head reaction .... I understand. Heart reaction ... my heartaches.

Grab some coffee ... I've never been short on words so I'm not starting now LOL.

I've been with this forum for many years now. Like others not as active as I used to be but I still pop on often and still utilize the search feature when needed. As others have said losing access to the information gathered here would be an unfathomable loss. I still remember when the forum crashed... and how painful it was to lose my posts of my search for a puppy and Chessie's early puppyhood.

Losing the information ... unfathomable. But, to me, losing the human element is equally devastating. I knew them only by their dogs and their names but we were drawn together by the love of our pets. I will never meet most of the people who I've developed cyber "relationships" with over the years... but I've laughed and cried, shared joy and excitement as well as grief and fear with this forum. I've followed their journeys ... the ups and downs. I've prayed for them. I've left little pieces of my heart here. There are even more fingerprints and paw prints that are imprinted on my heart. This was a family. Yes, there were times of strife, there were times when I've thought... get a life :goof ... and others I've thought ... What a LIFE! I've seen wonderful saga's played out in front of me by the words that were posted. I ask you to think very carefully about taking away the ability to post. That ability is what keeps life in the community. Being able to post questions and concerns... and to receive answers or just support is priceless.

And that sums up how I feel about this forum..... it's priceless. My sincere and heartfelt thanks for these years Jim. I know it's easy for me to say I'd like this forum to remain as it.. but it's work for you (and your son). I understand and appreciate your hard work and the effort it's taken through the years to keep it up and running. Whatever you decide I will always be grateful for this gift. Thank you!

I always wondered how you were doing in agility! Glad to hear that you are in masters now!

Hi Michelle,

Chessie and I are doing great.... we are still in agility classes but haven't been competing. As a matter of fact our next competition will be our first one in a year! Wish us luck ... Cleveland Crown Classic Dec. 8-11.

I never posted much but, have continued to read and check in to see what is happening in the Cocker World. Thanks, very much Jim, for continuing the forum. I've learned so much about Cockers and don't want to imagine there not being a forum. It is a wonderful resource.
Thanks.
Nancy

I've been a member pre-2010 site crash and have always valued this forum for information. Just tonight I came on after a very long time and posted, also taking the time to update my info.

I'm glad to know you'll be keeping the site going; the resources are invaluable, even for long-time cocker servants.

Best regards and thanks.

Seriously, though, I'm glad this forum will continue to remain the valuable resource we've come to depend on.

We have been on vacation in Mexico since November 12th and I just clicked on my bookmark to see what was going on. I just found your site recently and have found so much information! We have had 3 Cockers since 1991 (2 were rescue) and in April bought a new puppy because we were devastated after losing his predecessor. I have learned so much about how to groom this little guy, bully sticks for teething, etc. I love reading what others have to say - the older posts have really helped. I have not posted, but have read many posts about starting out with a "baby" in our retirement years. I just want to thank you for sharing your information. I did click to join the facebook link just a while ago. I do hope you keep this one going for a while as I would like to copy and paste a bunch of things that I do not want to forget.

I am glad to hear the forum will stick around. Thank you, Jim.

I think that we all can agree that there is not another site out there that is so full of helpful news and compassionate cocker owners to lend a helping hand. For the most part, many of us have had a cocker health issue come up at inconvenient times and this forum has been a helpful sounding board for advice on whether or not to panic. I am very sorry that new cocker owners seeking help in a time of crisis will not be able to get guidance from the numerous experienced cocker people on this forum.

Thank you, Jim, for the Zim Family Forum. 3.5 years ago I began researching Cockers as family pets because my daughter wanted a dog. I visited many web pages and several other forums before I found this one. Nothing out there compares to the collective knowledge and devotion to the breed that members of this forum possess and so generously share with anyone who asks questions. I can attest to this because I asked many, many questions and received honest, respectful, patient answers to every single one. Because of this forum, my family now has two Cockers. I've visited to share updates and scour the archives for health information. My life has gotten crazier over the last two years so my visits have dropped off but I do check in periodically to see how my favorites are doing. I look for Oliver, Belle, Maya, and Angel's updates. I read all of the posts about new puppies. I grieve with the members whose dogs have crossed the rainbow bridge.

Thank you for making the forum possible and for choosing to keep it open to existing members.

Shawn

I am so happy that the forum will still be around. Our first cocker we had for almost 11yrs. I found this forum when I was looking for a puppy & used it to teach myself how to groom Shiloh myself & improve her health. It was invaluable in picking out everything for her food, grooming supplies, toys, vaccines & preventatives. After getting our last cocker, I was on here daily trying to trouble shoot all of her problems. I did manage to get helpful information to solve most of her health issues, but her temperament issues couldn't be solved until we found her a new home without kids. We now have an almost 2yr old lab...to appease my hubby & oldest son. I still come on this forum every couple weeks to get my cocker fix, plus there are a lot of tips that still work for our lab, Luna. I have lost track of how many dog owners that I have referred to your website & forum. Both are such an immense wealth of information. Thank you Jim, for creating such a unique, friendly & valuable dog community! I have never found any other site or forum like yours! Love that you are willing to keep the forum open & just not accept new members.
