Maurice's hind leg is not responding very well and he is limping. I am still totally heartbroken about Blu, I just can not loose two in a week! I have an appointment with a neurologist tomorrow morning in Salt Lake City. Keep us in your prayers.

Oh no! Praying hard for you and Maurice. I hope it's just Blu sending you a diversion because he knows you're heartbroken. But praying hard nonetheless.

Just came from the neurologist. His evaluation was a partially torn ACL! I never thought I would be so relieved to know he had a torn ACL, but after the horrible loss and trauma with the IVDD, I am really relieved right now.
His advice was to give him Rimadyl 50 mg, twice a day for 60 days (Costco had the best price for the generic, $40 for the 60 days supply, brand name was $84), lots of rest, to loose 10 lbs (he is 50 lbs), and his ACL might heal by itself. His treats are to be little original Cheerios, carrots and green beans, no more free feeding but 1 1/4 cup of dog food twice a day. Boy, he is going to whine, maybe even try to move out (but he can not go too far with a torn ACL) LOL.
Got home to find out my Brittany reinjuried her ACL and will need to go to the vet Monday. I can't believe I have another one hurting! Lately it seems it is an unending trial after another.
Thanks for your prayers, it paid off big time. I don't think I could have handled having to let another one go.

Well, that is "good" news, relatively speaking, anyway. Poor Maurice, he's going to hate his new diet!
Maybe you should put non-skid booties on all your pups, so they don't slide on the floor.
Continued prayers and good luck for all of you.

Oh my, what a scare. Glad it was good news, not that it was really good news, but you know what I mean. It does seem never ending sometimes

Maurice must be a big boy.

LOL....isn't it amazing how our perspectives change? Many years back during the Vietnam Nam war a friend of our's received news that her paratrooper son had had a bad landing and shattered a hip bone. It would require surgery and months of therapy in a hospital within 10 minutes of his home and he would never be able to serve in the armed forces again. His mom was so happy! I am SO happy that the news is so much better than you feared.

Thanks guys, I finally could get some rest at night! The "all knowledgeable " flooring people that recommended laminate floors as the"best flooring" for dogs should be required to pay vet bills!
Chris, I will be looking for rubber booties and see if it will do the trick, thanks for the suggestion.
Maurice is already feeling something is not right around here. He is whining, begging for food, and not getting any response from us. Boy, that will be some change, I never saw him at 40 lbs, when I rescued him almost 6 years ago he was already 48 lbs! I hope we, and Maurice as well, can survive putting him thru that weight loss program. Wish us luck!

Try adding green beans to his food; called the green bean diet. Green beans have very minimal calories, but add bulk so Maurice will feel full.
I have used this diet for my dogs and it works!
I used frozen green beans for them; warmed them a bit in the micro to take the frostiness off, and tossed them into the kibble. My dogs love the green beans!
Good luck!

Marianne is right. You can also use carrots and fruits such as watermelon.

Thanks Vickie.

Marcia, we also have laminate floors, and I found that I need to keep the hair between the dogs' foot pads trimmed to help prevent slipping. I often trim between groomings, as the hair grows so darn fast!
I am going to formulate a pill that keeps dogs hair from growing! Lol!

Hardwood and tile isn't much better. I have throw rugs wherever the girls might jump, whether they make sense there or not

Marianne, hurry up with that pill!
