Hi everyone coming back for an update

Milo got out of surgery, a smaller mass was found in the same area. They said everything went well he is just been monitored as of now. The only thing that's left is his recovery and the biopsy to find out if those 2 masses are cancerous. I pray its not.. Ill see him through web cam soon since i cannot go visit him. So the vet places a camera for us to see from home..

the spleen was completely removed and he has a significant slice in the area.. They check all his other organs and told me that everything looks good.

i still cant stop crying in taking it too hard and last night was one of the hardest night of my life..

Image

i will keep you updated
Thanks for being there

I only hope the knowledge that so many of us were praying and waiting with you helped you feel at least a little better. I'm still thinking of and praying for Milo. It does sound like they got everything they needed to get though. We're still with you both.

Continued prayers for all of you. How soon will Milo be able to come home? I'm sure you'll feel better when you have him home and can stroke his sweet head.

So grateful that he got thru the surgery well.
It is so hard when they are away from us and going thru surgeries.
I will continue to pray for him and you and your family...

I'm glad the surgery is over and he can concentrate on getting better. Praying that the lab work comes back fine and that the tumors are NOT cancerous.

Glad to report that Milo is still doing good after the surgery. The hospital set up a web camera las night for us to see him via oovoo and there he was sitting like a good boy.
Image
He could not see me of hear anything to avoid excitement but i felt he knew i was watching him

I'm also glad to report that I will be picking him up at 6pm today. I'm so afraid to take care of him as far as taking him out and relieve himself knowing the size of the wound. I will ask for extremely thorough instructions on how to take care of him. Usually he sleeps with me on my bed but I have his crate ready as he cannot be jumping anywhere. So restriction to many things he usually does is very important. I can't wait to see him. I have a photo shoot with a client @ 2 then soon after in off to go get my buddy... :hp I love him so much!!

ill keep you updated

Can't wait for you to get him home !!!! I know how important that is for the both of you. My first cocker Tessa and DeeDee and Darla don't do well crated, they will go in but it does make them uptight soooooooo, I got an airmattress and on the floor I go in these situations. They see me, I can talk to them and (I have soft sided crates) I can unzip and put a hand on them if I want and it soothes them and me.
good luck with the care...you will be fine..
continued prayers for him and you

good point marsha i have a metal crate from when i got Milo 5 years ago.. i always left it open as he used to sleep in it with the door open.. i will ask the same question to the doctor.. Is it better to buy this baby playpen?

Made of plastic (safer)
still restricted
more room

Image

sample pic of real life size (not my baby its in the toysrus web)
Image

then his old crate i just finished cleaning and disinfecting
metal not safe
Jail looking
depressing
just sucks for this type of situation IMO

I am praying the biopsy brings a good report. It is so obvious how much you adore your buddy!! Milo's in very good hands.

The vets office has most likely had Milo up walking and out for his constitutional. Be caring, but don't fuss. They sense that and it seems to make things worse. He will probably come home with a pain patch and/or other meds. That baby play pen looks perfect. Put his bed in there and water.
Watch his gums to be sure they aren't pale and make sure he is drinking plenty of water.
My vets NEVER gave me instructions after surgery (idiots), hence the fussing.
So happy Milo will be home soon.

Hi Issac!
Milo looks good in the picture! Awake, and alert. I'm sure he knew you were watching- we are all connected, though some closer than others, you know.

You might not have to put him in "jail." When my Feather had a big mass removed from her belly and a ton of stitches, she let me lift her onto our bed, cuddled close, and waited for me to put her down. She didn't try to jump and she was a big time jumper.

I'm sure they'll give you instructions, hopefully written; we're always so happy to see our dogs that it's hard to remember all that is said. Be sure you get some kind of pain med for him; even if you never need to use it, you will have peace of mind knowing you have it just in case.

IMHO the most important things to prepare are soft places for him to lay, really close to wherever you'll be.

I am so happy he is doing better. Bet you are counting the minutes. Ask all the possible questions from pain control, wound/surgical site care, any binder to protect the area/dressing, signs and symptoms to watch for, how to take his temperature in case of fever, antibiotics..... Good luck wish you the best. He will be ok with all the love and care. When i. Brought Holly home after surgery i did not want to keep her in the crate all the time so I put a double comforter on the floor and her toys and water and I put her leash on and strapped it to the legs of a table. In that way she was without any jail time when I was at home. If you put him on the play pen when you get him out make him walk dont pick him up as sometimes the wounds can open with straining. :sun

Thank you everyone for your kind words
I made myself a small bed inside the pen as he always sleeps with me.
I lay down next to him during the day but at night I sleep in the sofa in order for me not to hurt his incision during my sleep.

He's doing good, in pain of course, but good as I try to comfort him by talking to him. The doctors say he's in no pain with with pain meds but I'm sorry pain meds or not.. I know it hurts him, the cut runs from the bottom of his rib cage all the way down to where his testicles used to be.

I know it's not easy for him poor thing...
