Perhaps this news hasn't hit the US, but a beautiful winning Irish setter was poisoned to death with meat laced with suspected rat poison and slug pellets at Crufts this week, and several other dogs are suspected to have been poisoned as well. They're still not sure who did it, but there have been lots of stories this week of the shenanigans showdog competitors will do to sabotage their rivals, such as bringing in bitches in season to distract performing males, making rival dogs sick with laxatives, or putting gum in rival dogs' beautifully prepared coats. Does this kind of evil behavior happen in US dog shows?

What is wrong with people! :bang Guess they are not big dog lovers if they are willing to take the life of one or more beautiful dogs so their own can win. I hope they find him/her/them and ban them from EVER owning, handling, showing or being near animals again. No excuse for such behavior. My heart goes out to the owners/handlers of the dogs taken ill or died. :sad

There were alerts at show here recently as well as in the past, telling owners to be sure to wash out their dog dishes before feeding and watering and not to leave their dogs alone... the blame was put on PETA, but it could be any sick person(s). It's frightening and sad.

Only just seen this! It was alleged originally that the dog was poisoned at Crufts, but the autopsy had conclusively proved this was NOT the case - the dog was running free in the woods local to its home after they returned and the poison found on autopsy was a fast acting one, so it couldn't have picked it up at Crufts on the Thursday and died more than 2 days later. And all the other people who claimed their dog was acting strangely seem to have melted away - specially the ones who claimed their dogs were sick at Crufts but still took them in the ring and won with them!!!
